Once I get a second car, I definitely want to do something similar to my ride, so your project is an inspiration! Strip it down, repair/ replace anything that needs doing, and build it back up. It's a great hobby plus getting to buy tools like welder, metal forming appeals to my blacksmithing experience.

That and after having a body shop charge me an arm and a leg for work that hasn't lasted a year, I'd rather do things myself, even if it's not perfect.

@ Ed Hughes - I love power hammers. I hope someday to be able to afford one. Was lucky enough to see a few in action at a shop, and at an ABANA conference back in 2002.

^^ reminds me of the VW crowd that artificially rust their cars. Getting a nice even layer of rust isn't easy.
I have no love for a 912, especially an early SWB. I think I could have more fun with a VW, maybe a Ghia or a hot rod bus.
Ed, the 356 is a different animal so I understand. I've been involved with a couple of 356 restos from a distance and our body guy swore he would never touch another one. His car was a Parade winner.

yeah, if you're going to get a 912, then just get a 356 instead, because eventually they'll intrigue you anyway. But restoring the floors and underbody on them is for the insane or truly bored.

Thanks! Not much for updates these past few weeks I've been overwhelmed with family duties. This coming weekend should be productive. Last weekend I purchased a bunch o metal to build a cart to rest the car on so I can move it around. Sunday I was able to make the connectors to the rear torsion tube. I'll continue with the other parts. It should lift the car up about 8 inches, and give me more room to move. I also welded on the right rear flare and couldn't reach the left one, which made me want to make the cart......

After realizing that I couldn't get the welder over to the left rear fender flare I decided to get a cart to wheel the car around.

So for all my work today I made an oversized steel grocery cart. But there's a plan with that grocery cart. I picked up some cart wheels awhile back that can take a 350lbs load each. Most of the whole time today was spent figuring out how to attach it to the car. I wanted something that I could convert to a rotisserie so what I came up with is attachements to the torsion bar tubes and the crossbar attachments. I only welded up the rear connections, next week I'll finish it up. Doesn't look like much but there's a lot of measurements in the thing!

When I was trying to figure out how to connect the wheels I went over to HomeDepot looking for some small stock metal. Wandering through the building section I came up to the stud braces for frame houses. Most of it was galvanized but with my luck I spotted stud re-enforcements that were not. $0.77 a piece and I only needed eight of them.... Nice! See pic below...Oh and you can see the welded fender flare in Pic #2..... the weld has not been ground yet.....
