Finally Starting my 3.2 to 3.4 Conversion
I'm finally starting my 3.2 to 3.4 conversion as a result of my valve guides needing replacement and the anticipation of the #8 seal potentially leaking on the bottom end. The 3.4 Mahle Pistons were not easy to find.

The casing still needs to be polished, but you can see where # 8 would begin leaking soon due to seals that were not that great in 87 and the wear due to mileage of course.

I'm doing the same thing, but I don't have to split my case. I walked into Andial in Fountain Valley recently and bought a set of high compression 3.4's off the shelf. They also had a set of stock compression at the time. Why did you have trouble finding them?

Hi Ed,
I was specifically looking for Mahle 98mm 9.8:1 Piston and Cyl Set, and I was basically looking for a specific price point.
I actually didn't have to open my case, but since I had the engine down this far I wanted to replace all of the seals, and bearings, on the bottom end to prevent any potential cold leaks down the road especially from # 8. I figured I'd take the engine down one time to try and avoid having an annoying slow leak in the future.

Sweet 3.4 projects going on in So. Cal. Wish I were there. I could make the rounds with a case of beer and stay updated weekly.
Dentron, Isthat a 3.6 lay-shaft(oil pump drive)?

I don't blame you for going through the case. I had done mine 2 years ago, and feel it is fine. I was pretty amazed I could get my Mahle goodies for JE prices-sign of the times.

Putting a bigger Cam in. Not too big so it doesn't kill my smog capabilities.

What cam manufacturer are you going with?
Regrind yours or new billet?
How did you decide on that particular profile?
I'm planning a valve job on my 3.2 with new rings if the P's and C's measure out ok. Also considering 964 cams but looking into other profiles that will pass CA smog.
Thanks for sharing your build. I'd like to go 3.4 with new jugs too and dual plugging as Ed is doing.........but...........gotta stop the madness and draw the line somewhere!
