On the track it is a whole different story. Regardless of mods. Besides, street comparisons are a waste of time with 911's. I pass stock, modified, highly modified wrx's, lancer evos, mustangs, whatever, all day long at the track. Regardless of power. If someone has 100 hp on me, I just go into a turn sideways at at least 20 mhp faster than he is. And that is not just me since behind me will be a 911 train of sc's and carreras. And here is the beauty of the 911. No understeer entering that turn 20 mph faster than normal. No trail braking required. There aren't many cars as agile as a 911 on a road course. Especially cars built after 1990. The only thing is you need to know what you are doing and be comfortable enough driving sideways to a point that you can do it all day long without a care in the world. But once you can do it, you will find that unlike other cars, a 911 rewards that kind of driving much more so than other cars. That's why I drive nothing else. Besides, I don't think anything else would have lasted through the 8 years of track driving and 11 years of autocrossing my car has seen without an engine rebuild. But I do have to admit my liking of the wrx. It's one of the few cars made outside of the fatherland today that I will take.

It was a couple of weeks ago if I remember correctly. Nice car. I also took a ride in one back in January in New Zealand. I also drove a turbo Imprezza when I was down there. I really like that one. Too bad the ones that came here were never turbocharged. I just like that body with a turbo.

Uuuuh - I don't get the joke here. Sleeper, who are you trying to b.s. here that your wrx has 246 rwhp with standalone, exhaust, pulleys, boost controll (what boost?), etc???? If that thing doesn't have at least 300rwhp at 15 pounds, your dyno operator is a crackhead. You are trying to snowball your friend, right? I don't even know how you could get 246, unless you are using the initial drive-it-to-the-dyno safety map.
Anyway, you should pit your car against a Porsche with a modern ignition/fuel system (not a stock 930 with c.i.s., either) and a turbo - like my 951. I would be very interested to find out if you would have time to read my license plate.

Hmm. Interesting thread. I wonder if these guys put their cars on the track a dozen days a year and constantly pushed them to the limits, who would have maintenance issues in the end? I've watched Mustangs, Mit's GT3000's, Preludes, Acura's and a Camaro (all later cars) lose brakes and melt down at Watkins Glen. Porsche's just kept going. Subaru makes an awesome product, I'll say that.

Someone had an Evo at Lime Rock last week with the Schattenbaum D.E. Fast little car.

As for the WRX, i just (within the past week) read an article in a car mag (Autoweek, I think) about a special edition that's doing 0-60 in 4.78 secs (or less). Fast car anyway you look at it. Personally, I'm not crazy about the looks of the car; they're not cute like the new mini, nor are the lines "clean" like e.g., the current VW Jetta. But, for that kind of performance, I could look past the aesthetics and strap myself onto the rocket.

What the hell, it's all fun!

It's an awesome little car for sure but under 2 secs? Let's be realistic here.
Even with those mods it would have its hands full at the track I believe. Case in point: I looked up the fastest WRX at the SCCA Solo competition Cobb says they finished 2nd place at this past weekend. It happend to be here in Houston so it wasn't that difficult to get. It was 43.543secs for the WRX and the fastest time of a competitor in a Boxster was 42.452. Notice I did not say Boxster S, 911, 911C4 or 911TT for that matter. It was an '01 Boxster with a damn good driver of course.

I came on the board to correct some inaccuracies about my car...now people are getting nasty so you asked for it:
"Sleeper, who are you trying to b.s. here that your wrx has 246 rwhp with standalone, exhaust, pulleys, boost controll (what boost?), etc???? If that thing doesn't have at least 300rwhp at 15 pounds, your dyno operator is a crackhead."

Here's the parts I have with the dyno graph crackhead...like i said 326 at the crank and 242 at the wheels. You obviously don't know anything about WRX's and/or AWD driveline losses:
TurboXS WRX STG3 Components: (approx 326 HP vs 227HP Stock).
<a href="http://turboxs.com/UTECSTG3.htm" target="_blank">http://turboxs.com/UTECSTG3.htm</a>

and as far as this:
"Where did the 0-60 in under 2 seconds come from?
It's an awesome little car for sure but under 2 secs? Let's be realistic here."

here ya go:
"Due to the high level of interest in the subject, we recently had the car timed at an auto-x (ProSolo) event which utilizes a "drag type" standing start. Keep in mind, this is NOT A DRAG car nor is any part of it's suspension setup for optimal drag launches.

At the event, Conebasher has been timed doing approximately 1.9 second 0-60mph times consistently.

60' times were recorded at 1.75 seconds where it was trapped at 57.3MPH."

READ MY POSTS I NEVER SAID MY CAR WAS BETTER THAN YOURS!!! So stop getting defensive and trying to compare your 911's to my wrx as far as a track car...that's as dumb as me comparing your 911's to my wrx on a rally course. WRX's can be modded for track use but that's not what they're designed for...some have done it more successfully than others. Gary Sheehan took 2nd in the USTCC the past 2 years in a WRX, but out of the box they aren't great track cars especially because most people don't drive them well at all. I never said the WRX was better than a 911 at ANYTHING and certainly not as a track car....

peace,
-Mike

Uh-huh - your dyno operator is a crackhead and the standalone tuner is on pcp. <img border="0" alt="[hiha]" title="" src="graemlins/roflmao.gif" />
And you have an EBC strictly for the purpose of leaving it always at 15.5 psi - cut the comedy, Scooby-dooby.
Oh, and "nasty" is this a car forum or is this 4:00 PM tea time at Buckingham Palace - sheesh

I test drove a WRX over the weekend as my wife and I are looking for an AWD utility wagon. It is a fun little car for sure. I don't love the exterior styling, but I don't dislike it either. The sales manager at the Subaru dealer had a modified wagon he used at the track - bigger brakes, chipped motor, exhaust system changes, etc. It looked like a really cool car - not to mention he could hit Costco or Home Depot for supplies on the way home from the track. It is not a 911, and was not nearly as fun or involved as driving my 87 911, but for the money and the utility there is no car out there that even comes close.

Unfortunately my wife was not interested (despite her being a track hound). I really liked the idea of showing up at the track and runnning a few laps with my P-car buddies in a wagon

I dont care how fast the WRX is...that car, IMO is just flat out Ugly. They took a boxy sedan and threw a hood scoop and some ground effects on it. I dont know if WRX owners are heavily moding them to correct these looks (probably not) but the interior is cheaply put together as well. I test drove one when I was looking for a new car in 2002... at the time, I chose the Acura RSX simply because its a much better made car, though no rose to look at either.

even tho you're bashing my car we're back on topic so that's good
I really liked the old body style of the 2 door RS. I too am not a fan of the '02 and '03 stock looks. I'm not really a fan of the '04 looks either...but I'm real happy with how mine looks now...

I replaced the headlights and grill inserts, the hood, put sideskirts on, oz racing/prodrive 17" wheels, clear side markers, and the eibach springs I use have 1.5" drop front and 1" drop rear. I chose the wheels and springs for performance first but the biproduct is it looks much better too. You'll probably still hate it because its japanese styling but here goes anyways:
