As far as me driving a porsche...nope I've never had the pleasure. One thing I don't think I mentioned is that I do know what its like to drive a RWD sports car...I also own this:

The fun factor of RWD is an awesome thing....my particular 240sx has a bunch of suspension work done which makes it a joy to drift. It gives you seemingly total control no matter how out of shape you get it. Anyways...the 240 and the WRX are 2 very different animals which need to be drivin quite differently for optimal speed in corners. The 240 has stiff suspension and sways making it great for tracking a racing line...probably much like your porsche's, while the wrx benefits from very aggressive entries leading to full throttle 4 wheels drifts...its not pretty but after a bunch of solo's i've found that keeping the turbo spooled by spinning produces the best times. On a large course like watkins or something where spooling is never an issue my stlye would probably change...

Another thing i've found is there's only one other guy I've seen drive a wrx at an autoX aggressively enough to pull a good time. I'm not saying I'm a great driver...because i'm not...but most folks embarrass the car by allowing it to plow, getting into off boost situations, etc. People say the wrx understeers...big deal adjust your tire pressure then it won't anymore...or make it oversteer...or pop a bigger rear sway on like i did.

I guess my point is...some people made comments to the effect of...any piece of crap can be made fast enough to beat a porsche on one day in a straight line. I would say that a) the wrx is not a piece of crap b) it does pretty well in a corner too, although the stock brakes are not track worthy.

I'd hate to screw up my non-troll status now so don't take this the wrong way but but here's some food for thought: I just looked at the One Lap of America results...and only one porsche beat the mildly modified WRX station wagon that 2 random guys entered. And that was a race prepped 996 twin turbo. All I'm saying is the car holds its own pretty darn well...

peace,
-Mike
