You may have completely missed the whole concept of Spyder; and, I don't mean that in a disrespectful way! It is all about "feeling" of driver engagement, as opposed to outright pace or HP. You couldn't possibly sell me a turbo when all I care about are how often I can wind the engine up toward the red line and hear the wail of NA! In case you missed, many of the Spyder drivers actually don't care about more HP. In fact, I would want "less" power, in exchange for less weight and shorter gearing, while maintaining all the virtues of Spyder that we now expect.

Spyder is a great car for sure, and I love it. However, it will never fall in the ranks of a GT3 bread race car. No knock on my Spyder, but different car for different missions. GT3 on a track and legal open roads there's nothing like it. My RS is the one car I said I would never sell. Again my Spyder is in that space for different reason.

None taken. I was thinking of Spyder as the Boxster counterpart to Cayman GT4, a track-oriented limited edition all about speed and dynamics. If that were the case, then since the 718 Cayman S is already faster than the GT4 (per fastestlaps.com) despite a significant disadvantage in hp, power/weight, 1" narrower rear wheels, playing racing engineer I'd take that as my platform/engine package and crank up the boost, increase radiator size for air-to-water intercooler to pack a denser charge, and further fatten-up that flat wide turbo torque band.
btw in analyzing the fastestlaps data, I'm focusing on the long pulls -- 0-200kph and standing 1000m -- on the rationale that they minimize variables around launch control and PDK shift speed, getting closer to an on-the-road dynamometer. 718 has the edge there. GT4 has the edge on track but then it's a track-oriented special with more hp. Even so the 718 would be filling its mirrors on the short tracks at Hockenheim and Magny-Cours.
If I could build 'my' 718 turbo-4 Spyder/GT4, I'd love watching it on track against next-gen N/A flat-6 Spyder/GT4. Now that would be interesting....

Bingo. My tuned 996 TT was a rocket, but didn't provide the sense of engagement and emotion I receive in spades from the Spyder.

True. The 991 gt3 is unquestionably THE best/most
capable Porsche I have ever owned & that I have
LEAST enjoyed driving in normal roads & in daily
driving activities! Granted, PDK did not help!!!

where I live to truly enjoy the capabilities of the gt3 or
a gt3 RS. So that leaves you only with a track alternative
for these capable machines. So sadly, after two years
of ownership & barely any miles driven, I sold today my
'Signal Green' '15 gt3! I will try to find something fun
to drive & enjoy in our legal, but less-than-fully-open,
roads here in our Scottsdale area! Hopefully that
'something' will tie me over until I get my allocation
for the next Boxster Spyder!
Sorry to hear you sold a beautiful car, and agree you have to find space to drive them to enjoy. The limited time I get to drive it I truly enjoy it. I'm sure the new owner is very excited to enjoy such a great car.

Well Eduardo - I do relate to your choice as it is similar to letting go of my 08 TT cab in favour of a Gen 1 Spyder. Others had questioned my logic but the car was so mammothly powerful it was just too easy to break the speed limit. I opted for something lighter and more fun on the twisties. I only regret it as being a good DD, something it sounds like your Gt3 was not.
I too have a deposit on a Gen 3 Spyder. My question to you is what's you PTS strategy? I'm already thinking of Birch Green...

That was my 2014 GT3 that Eduardo was driving on that trip. The photo was taken in Big Bend National Park, but that is definitely not the place to go fast (45 MPH or less speed limits!). Outside the park, there are some great roads where you can stretch the car's legs a bit more. Among them are US 385 from Marathon to the park's north entrance, Texas 118 between Alpine and Study Butte, Texas FM 170 between Lajitas and Presidio, and the Texas 118/166 scenic loop in the Davis Mountains west of Fort Davis.
