Default Slate Gray GT4 comes home!

After nine months, it’s finally in the garage!

VERY happy with the color, the options, and especially (so far) the PDK. First drive was 127 miles home from the paint protection installer’s shop. Compared to the 981 GT4 (which I dearly loved), this car has a much more “GT” feel. It literally sounds like a bucket of bolts in comparison. The PDK feels much closer to that in our 991.1 GT3RS as opposed to the 992 PDK we had for a short time. It sounds and feels like a track car (as it should).

I’m in love with the color. Despite seeing a similar shade on every other SUV on the road these days (which is a new phenomenon) - to my eye, it still looks very different on a sports car, and especially on a Porsche GT4. Even if the roads had been littered with gray SUVs when I made this choice - I would do it again. I have loved this color since the first time I saw it. I also wanted a color that had a lot of Porsche history. Mission accomplished.

My last GT4 delivery was interrupted for several months by a concussion. My husband had to eventually drive it home for me from the dealer, and it sat for 4.5 months until I I was able to start driving again. I wasn’t really able to enjoy it until the following year, and even then I wasn’t recovered until an additional year. In hindsight I recognized it, but at the time I had no idea where I was in my recovery.

This GT4 delivery was the opposite of last time. We took delivery on 5/27 at the dealer, where I saw the car still wearing the shipping wrapper. We shipped it to BlockaChip in Mentor OH for paint correction, full clear wrap and ceramic coat along with window tint. Yesterday, we drove 127 miles to the shop to pick it up. So my first ride was far longer than driving home from the dealer (roughly 20 miles). And I loved every minute!

I am working with P1 Designs on some seat inserts and will post interior pics once those are installed. For now it’s the “usual” LWB and leather interior with silver stitching throughout the interior.

I feel VERY grateful to have this car. And I’m thankful for the Rennlist community and all the support I’ve received in my Porsche journey thus far. It’s been quite a ride!

Turnpike stopping point illustrates the changing color in different light

First time I laid eyes on it at the detailer’s shop

At CnC: Gentian Blue, Slate Gray Y97 and Sapphire 981. And a fourth Gential Blue with Silver wheels showed up (pitt911) but I was so mesmerized I never got a photo!

Just short of 1000 miles! Absolutely LOVE it.

P1 Designs seat inserts are newly installed.
I am thrilled with the outcome! Thanks Kim for exceeding expectations and the excellent and detailed communication through the entire process.

Thanks also to Sewickley Porsche Service Manager Duane, who suggested this fabric when I told him I was looking for alternatives. Brilliant idea and he sourced the fabric for me from Germany and shipped it to P1. I never saw it (other than photos) until today. It was a little gamble but I trust Duane and (once again) his advice was perfect and I am very pleased!

The fabric is called “Porsche Script” and it was available on 911 and 944 in the 1980s. I love that it’s a genuine factory option, and that the fabric was sourced from Germany. It checked all the boxes for me!

Will report back once I get some seat time.

Before and after

Great instructions

My little splash of yellow in the cabin.

I wanted SUBTLE and this fabric delivered the look I want: unique, factory, subtle. Just like Slate Grey👍🏼

Nice storage bags to keep originals clean

Congrats Carol! Looks great. You did full car PPF, correct? If I get out to a PGHCNC this season, I'll try and message you although probably won't be till next year, would enjoy seeing that car in person.

Beautiful and congrats on finally getting it home. I love your description of it sounding "literally like a bucket of bolts" and it couldn't be more accurate. The clutch engaging and disengaging, the belts, the fans, the wind noise, the exhaust sound...it's all intoxicating.

The journey is what makes the car so special and it sounds like you had some speed bumps along the way leading to the 718 GT4. Again, congrats and enjoy in good health! Please remember to post pictures when you figure out what you want to do with the inserts.

Thanks Joe. Yes, we did the entire car including wing. Albert did a nice job. All edges tucked. This morning someone asked if the car had PPF. They were looking for lines and couldn’t find any.

If I return to the CLE area I will let you know. Are you going to the BlockaChip open house next Saturday? I am thinking about it just as a destination for some more breakin miles, and of course it’ll be fun to see some exotic cars. I’ve not gone in the past. There’s also a local ARPCA social event I’m thinking about, so I’m not sure what I’ll end up doing. Can’t do both as they are in opposite directions and the timing won’t work.

Looking forward to getting to know this car, and the PDK. My left foot was searching for a clutch the first couple times I started it!

Clearly I did not take the time to read the entire post (was paying more attention to the pics), my bad on that as you mentioned you did full car clear bra.

I went to the Block a Chip Open House both in 2018 and 2019, it's about 50 mins from my house. I don't believe I will be going this year, due to other commitments with family, but if that changes, I'll be sure to let you know.

Again enjoy it - I'll be sure to keep in touch if I make it out to PGH this year or next and definitely do the same if you're at any events in CLE.

That is a baller car! I see you are no stranger to Pcars... but get the adjustable toe links, realign the suspension and at least replace the OAP or go headers (if not the whole exhaust)... you will enjoy it even more (maybe you already have some nods in mind and if you could share, that would be appreciated)! Congrats and it is gorgeous!
