I said C7 was 2-3 seconds faster. I didn't buy the base C8. I'm waiting for a Z06 version.

Relax, relax...was joking. Take it easy. I think its cool that guy has multiple toys and the way he stated it about his wife not wanting motorcycles in the house...see if you have to explain it is is not as funny. Plus when I was typing it my wife was looking over my shoulder.

Hey you never know with guys on car guys on the forums. Usually it's just the same tired joke of "get rid of the wife" when anyone brings up WAF

I'm parting with my .2 RS for a Spyder (now a July delivery) and a C8 Z06! Put my C8 deposit down 3 months ago. Probably won't see an allocation until late 2022 or 2023. It'll be worth the wait lol.

I'm eyeing the C8 Z06, and am contemplating getting one to go along with or maybe even replace my Spyder. I find the C8 to be overstyled with too many sharp edges, though the Z06 seems to be an improvement over the Stingray when it comes to the side scoops and rear bumper. I traded my AMG GT S for the 718 Spyder an year ago, mainly because I wanted something more usable in a tight autocross course (ie. smaller and shorter hood). An year later, I enjoy the Spyder, and it definitely is more tossable, but perhaps I slightly regret the trade; I think the AMG felt like more of an occasion to drive, and I miss the DCT and torque. I liked the colour of my AMG better too

A C8 Z06 would be technically superior to my old AMG GT S and my Spyder by most measures (power, redline, damping, grip, gearing, shift speed), and the mid-engine design would avoid the super long hood related difficulties I had in autocross with the AMG. Just not sure if the bigger size would bother me, I'd miss having a manual car, or I'd get sick of the C8's garish angular styling. Maybe a C8 Z06 plus a manual base 987 Boxster would be a good combo.

I also wonder how the "sense of occasion" would feel in a C8 Z06, compared to my old AMG GT S, or current Spyder. My old AMG always felt like I was taking out a crazy/ridiculous (in a good way) car, while my my 718 Spyder feels more familiar/normal, though it also "fits like a glove" as some would say. Trading my Spyder for a used AMG GT R is another option, though used AMG GT R's have gone up around 10-15% in price compared to two years ago, despite being twice as old now.

I am eyeing it too, and I don't even have my GT4 yet, lol.

Having said that, I would wait 2-3 years to pull the trigger.

My plan is to enjoy my upcoming GT4 for 2-3 years and then re-evaluate. There are going to be huge mark-ups on them for the 1st year. Also, by waiting for a couple years you give it a chance to be well reviewed by many sources, can wait and see if there are going to be any issues, and you let the hype die down some.

…plus I read somewhere that an interior re-design is in the works.

I would consider a c8 if they completely redesigned the rear of the car. The rear is terrible. GM said that they felt it was very important that their customers are able to put a set of golf clubs in the trunk that is located behind the engine. For real? Are they kidding? They almost designed a beaitiful car, but found a way to make it look horrible.

Actually 2 sets of golf clubs.

I was on an early list. I owned Z06s for 20 years.

I now throw up a little in my mouth whenever I see one…

That right there should tell you all you need to know about who this car is directed towards which in turn drives things such as design. Can't knock it for it's superior bang for your buck but falls flat in the design department.

Interesting wrtite-up on development history and forthcoming trim levels of C8s in recent SAE publication.

https://www.sae.org/news/2021/08/gm-...ifferent-plane

Article does a pretty good job of explaining flat-plane crank shafts, inherent vibration characteristics of various engine designs, and probably excites those who might be thinking of adding an LT6 or LT7 to their collection in the future.

Someone on the 992 GT3 board (who seems well positioned to know) posted the Z06's starting price at $81k (well cheaper than even a GTS 4.0 Cayman and half the price of the new GT3)...
