The new ZO6 has a V8 for the ages but I’m skeptical it will take the track abuse I’ve heap upon Porsches over the years.

The motor is derived from the C8R race car, so it is not unproven in a race environment.

Seeing some tribalism and bias here to write this thing off in such a way. It's not going to have the fit and finish level of a Porsche but if the benchmark was a 458 Speciale and with GM's chassis engineers I'd have no doubt this thing is a weapon of a car. Shame about the square steering wheel. I had a short drive in a more base C8 and didn't come away thrilled (felt like a space ship), but I think it would be hard not to have a good time behind the wheel of one of these.

I had a C4 ZR1 and the engine was bulletproof. It’s not the drivetrain that would give me pause as it is world class but with body on frame I don’t think the build quality will be Porsche level nor the dealer support. I had one of the 1st 800 991.1 GT3s and Porsche didn’t blink when they replaced the motor and added a 10 yr warranty. I don’t see GM being as responsive. That said if I had the patience and storage room I’d scoop up a C8 ZO6 in a heartbeat.

Hate the drive by wire brakes, but the enngine sounds spectacular Will be interesting to see how they do on track after they are in the wild for a while.

IIRC it wasn't as simple and easy as you put. Wasn't there a concerted effort from RL members holding PAG's feet to the fire on this issue; and it wasn't just one motor revision?

Body on frame ended with the C4, so something like 25 years ago.

It’ll rack up some incredible numbers. I had the previous 3 Z06 generations and not a customer anymore.

It's not hate. For me to hate the vette first I'd have to try and care about its existence. I simply do not so it's not possible for me to hate it. I can not like something and at the same time recognize it as a fantastic car for other people that are not me.

Is it an American thing to think I don't like it = I hate it and it must be erased from existence?

Personally very excited about this car, especially as a previous owner of a 458. Get (hopefully) at least 80% of that 458 experience for half the price and with a warranty? Yes PLEASE.

Here you are posting about it, so you must care. I've grown to appreciate Porsche GT cars, but I'm open minded about this car. I will give it a shot unless it completely falls apart in the market hands before I get my chance. It's not a Porsche, so I don t expect it to be. I'll appreciate it for what it is. If that doesn't speak to me, I'll move on.

I was just reading about the new Z06. 600+ HP, flat plane crank V8 with a 9krpm redline, and a dealer network that won't have me driving 3 hours to get an oil change seem appealing. The price is expected to be competitive with the GT4. I don't think I'm going to change my order though. I think the C8 is a little overdesigned (never liked the big hard lines of GM/Cadillac) and will be tired looking soon. That being said, would any of you get a new Z06 over a GT4 or a Spyder? Would you cross shop them? Why/why not?
Congrats on your allocation. I have owned 2 C'8s and a couple of 718's a Boxster GTS (current) a 2021 Spyder and a Cayman GTS also a couple of 991 turbos and a GT3 RS and several other 991's. I also own a C7 Z06, a Mclaren and several other interesting cars and I have owned MANY others. I have a Z06 reservation at 2 dealers. My take on your question is the cars are Totally different other than 2 doors, performance oriented and price range. As someone else mentioned the C8 is much heavier than the Spyder but much more powerful. As someone else also mentioned you could buy the Spyder and if you really wanted to buy a z06 you could trade it in or sell it. The only thing the Z06 will have over the Spyder is power imo. The fun to drive car will be the Spyder, again imo.

I was being called by 2 people when typing this comment and I referenced the GT4 not the Spyder sorry but it changes nothing imo.

This thread has attracted the finest rennlist has to offer.

It's interesting that the reviews are out this week, and people can finally hear what that engine sounds like. No question, it sounds like a mid-00s Ferrari. Which is, to say, one of the finest noises an automobile has ever made.

Anyone "hating" on this car after hearing that is not a car enthusiast. End of story.

Three posts calling out 'hate' and 'tribalism'. I see none in the preceding posts. I do see at least three examples of virtue signaling.

my neighbor has a C8 convertible.... it sounds really nice, and is fast as hell.. no doubt its a really fun car. IMO, I dislike the design, looks like a paper airplane unfolding... the rims are too fussy, and all the exterior black trim is this glossy black metallic.. it looks cheap IMO.

True!

The rear end is really bad.
