Stop Sale on 718 GTS, Spyder & GT4

I think this is a good question- Since the title didn’t exchange (it never leaves the control of the manufacturer) and thus any repair remains a manufacturing process. I’ll posit that this repair will not be known. I am told that engine numbers and chassis numbers do not match in these Porsche (Someone confirm?). If so, then Porsche controls the record and we receive a “New Car” that will have the VIN number range as the only proof of the issue. I think if the 10 yr warranty and the car, overtime, is reliable (say after 2 to 3 years of trouble free service) then one may actually gain value of a 10 year warranty.

I was at the dealer Tuesday and my SA knew nothing about it. I’ve made it clear to the dealer and PCNA, including the CEO of PCNA, that I’ll wait as long as necessary for a new engine so there would be no reason to call me.
If you haven’t communicated what you want in writing to PCNA I encourage you to do so as it appears decision time is here. Thirty letters or emails saying “new engine” in the next few days could be the deciding factor.

no. you put owner in quotes because they are NOT the owner. Porsche owns the car. There are some differences between jurisdictions, but generally the car isn’t yours until you’ve paid in full AND taken delivery.

While I don’t expect to have a decision to make, it’s a fun game to play. I’m so torn. Does my impatience outweigh my preference for a factory built engine...maybe. The opportunity cost of losing 3 to 6 months enjoyment of the car might outweigh concerns about a rebuild. I don’t own cars forever, no matter what I tell myself each time I want my car now!!

I think that buying a 4 year old car with 6 years remaining on factory drivetrain warrantee is quite appealing. That is making the assumption that the 4 liter motors don’t have pervasive issues, which I doubt, I have confidence in Porsches engineering capabilities.

I'm still on the fence about this, too. I really don't want to wait 5-6 months additional. If you take the emotional aspect out of the equation, it's difficult to rationalize why you would, without some meaningful compensation and other assurances (how the car is being stored and handled, etc), and I don't know if even that will be enough. We shall see.
If there's an upside for those in the "undelivered" camp, it's that the delay will allow some time to see if there are any issues encountered with the cars that have their engine replaced in the next 60 days. Unfortunately, they will be the unwitting guinea pigs in this process, for better or worse.

As with the resale of the Infamous GT 3 buying a used Gt car with an extended mfg warranty on engine would be a bonus as anyone else selling the same MY would have a out of warranty engine. I would definitely be a buyer $ for $ over expired warranty car

The oft quoted 10 Year GT3 warranty didn’t come with engine replacement.
It was years later when it became apparent that there was a valve train design/material problem — google “finger follower”. These engines are still blowing up today...

What if the production of the 4.0 engine stops in 2022 with the GT4RS (= no 2022 GT4 or Spyder or GTS) , and after that only an electric 983 model can be ordered, would you like a "refurbished 2021" GT4/Spyder ?
