I would not worry about it one bit. The difference between green and yellow on these cars is a very, very small amount. On top of that it can be quite a pain to get it just right when refilling. A proper shop will have the engine warm and let it drain for an eternity, then fill it up with about 7-7.5 quarts (or whatever the appropriate amount is for a particular motor). Then let it run for quite a while before checking the level. You do not want to overshoot and put in too much oil, which Porsche makes it kinda easy to do.

Keep a couple of quarts of Mobil 1 0W-40 European Car Formula (or whatever these new cars take) in the garage. If it tells you to add some start out with a small amount. A quarter to half a quart. Drive it around a bit to warm it up. Park on a level surface and let it update the reading.

This is in all likelihood 100% normal. My 981 Boxster GTS, 981 GT4, 991.2 Carrera, and 991.2 GT3 have all done this. I fully expect my 718 GT4 to do the same.

My 2020 718 GT4 is at 1000 miles and the oil level indicator is now down one tick from max and I'm planning to source whatever oil my local dealer is using....also begs the Mobil1 C40 availability question. You have probably searched the threads as I have and found consensus seems to be these motors may use some oil, at least during the break-in cycle. The owner's manual specs up to 1.36 quarts per 1000 miles! Hoping my rings seat and this stops in the next few thousand miles.

I did the normal AP break-in as well, oil level progressively lowered over time, dipping to yellow at 2300 miles, 1 qt was added. Oil level progressively lowered over time, dipping to yellow at 4800 miles, 1 qt was added. Not really concerned though, car is daily driven with track use as well.

Each little mark on the electronic gauge is about 200ml of oil.
Can add it in 200ml amounts until it reads in the optimal range. The gauges are quite finicky - won't measure unless certain parameters are met, etc. Also make sure it's the same spot each time where the ground is level.

Phew... thanks all especially the link to other threads. I did try the search function as well as google with rennlist in the search and no luck! Ill get some oil and an IV set up in the back and just have on a constant drip then (joke) as this seems to be the way the car is... just nervous, especially with the recalls on the car. Love all about it.

My car has also used over a quart of oil in the first 5,000 miles. Most of the consumption seems to have come from track use.

Default Anyone had to add oil yet?

I am at 1550 miles and just got a message to add oil. I used to do 12k miles a year on a 991NA, 981NA, and 987NA and never once got a low oil message.

I've had my car since May 2020, I'm at 1800 miles it told me to add oil. The message went away after I drove for about 5 miles when I got the car warmed up. I assume because it was so cold and I don't drive it much.

I had to add a quart at around 2,500 miles and this is apparently normal.

My GT4 needed bit more than 1 quart at 3300 miles. performed oil change at 3300 miles and it took 7.5 quarts. Im at 4100 miles and oil is still level now at max. Hopefully the oil eating is done... I do wring its neck to between 6,000 and 8,000 rpm every chance I get so that may cause a bit of oil usage...

got a message to add a quart at around 2500 as well. Had to drive with it low for ~200 miles since I was on a road trip with it. Pretty annoying, if I knew about this consumption earlier I would have kept a quart in the frunk.

Isn’t about a quart normal during break-in?

After break-in a quart every 2500 miles sounds a little high. But let the experts chime in.

Got the same. A Porsche technician told me it's part of this engine's break-in period (and showed me the notes in a manual). Just top it up. It will stabilize soon.

Mine just needed a quart (1 liter) after 5500 km. I did aggressive break-in when new.
