My 981 GT4 used significantly more oil when tracking, not so much with normal street driving. I ran Motul 300 V race oil.

Default Car eats oil, expected?

It seems that my Spyder is very hungry for oil. I have 4200 miles on it and it’s the second time it’s asking me to fill it up with oil. Is this expected? I drive the car in higher rev ranges like 60% of the time. I’ve checked my garage for oil leaks too but nothing.

What’s your experience?

I cannot speak from personal experience as I just took PEC LA delivery of my 2021 GT4 two days ago. My driving coach for the morning volunteered, however, that the 4.0L consumes little, if any oil. By the way, he races a GT4 Clubsport, so should know whereof he speaks.

Same with my Spyder and a Porsche technician explained to me it is totally normall up until 5000km or so for our particular engine. Just top it up and it will stop eating oil over the next 5000km. Cheers

Thanks all. It was around 3000 miles that I added oil, but now at 4200 it’s asking for oil again. I hope it’s the last time and nothing is actually wrong.

Inquiring minds want to know, did you follow the 2000 mile owners manual break in ritual?

and yes, I did go there........

I didn’t follow the procedure completely. Around 1200 miles I got tired and started revving . But I wonder how that could be related!?

It might but it’s impossible to know. What I do know is the same guidance that calls for a 2000 mi break in schedule also says it’s considered normal for the motor to consume up to 1L every 1000 miles. Are they related, who knows but 99 times out of a hundred these motors eventually get to a steady state where they use very little oil. When it gets there is dependent on multiple factors so I wouldn’t be concerned. If it doesn’t settle down by the 10k miles / 1 year service interval I’d make sure it’s documented by your dealer.

I appears my car’s oil consumption is about right.

By 3600km mine was one segment away from the MIN indicator on the gauge, I opted to change the oil as opposed to simply topping it up, it took a few outings to get the level where I wanted it, it sat for a few days one segment below MAX and now is reading MAX (not over-filled).

I broke my engine in according to the book, I consumed about 0.7l by the time I changed it at 3600KM.
