I called Suncoast Porsche regarding an oil change kit for my GT4. The parts guy said he talked with the service technicians and they said the correct oil is Mobil 1ESP 0W40 and that they stock it. I said no I want the C40 rated ESPX3 version recommended in the manual......he said no what they stock is what is correct. I said please send me the filter and drain plug and promptly ordered the Motul C40 from Pelican Parts.....

Yep, that's the other problem, the " we always used this before and it worked fine..." mentality, it is hard to believe that they are not using the latest guidelines published by Porsche!

So my local dealer (NorCal Stevens Creek) gave me Mobil 1 ESP Fomula the first time. They were able to get their hands on X3 PC40 after I showed them the email from Mobil1 tech team. ESPX3 is definitely available to the US dealers. They just have to request the correct stuff.

@minchu0647 Thanks for the update, good to know that they can order it! I need to top mine up or get an early oil change...

BTW, thanks for the clear pictures too, very helpful and even the QR code was readable!

Default Oil Consumption

I am at about 2500 miles and am starting to notice oil consumption without smoke or operating changes.

What else are others seeing?

Anyone actually investigate this issue?

I am at just over 4000 miles and had my low oil light come on that it was at the minimum level. I added 0.5L - light was still on.
Added the other half of the bottle and haven't had the chance to drive the car again and check (hoping it goes away).

FYI - I have not had any oil changes. If it is still on, I may just schedule an oil change at my local indy

Edit: I hate the electronic gauge.... it takes such a long time to just get the reading to be accessible, and I don't have time to tool around town for 30 minutes waiting for it to figure out how to read the oil.

First off. Best time to check is right after you fuel up. Car is warm and has had more than a minute to sit.

I did a break-in oil change at 3850 miles when I had my winter tires put on, the gauge was indicating 3/5ths used. Followed the break-in rules as outlined in the manual, and did 3 days of track events after 2,000 miles. I'm at about 5700 miles now and the oil level is still showing full.

Cheers.

With my 981S, I had to add a quart at around the 3000 mile mark. Never had to add a drop between changes after that. I expect these engines to behave about the same.

It appears that I have been burning oil after moderate weekend runs. No track days yet. Followed AP's break-in procedure.

Oil consumption is per usual for GT cars mine was no different its .5L at a time process. If the oil light is still on and has not reset after adding more oil shut and lock the car door for a minute or so. Open up with fob and then check oil level again it should reset. If still showing low then you are still low. Hope this helps out picked up from a well experienced P tech when working on my GT4.

Much appreciated.

I have 24 liters of 0-W40 Mobile 1 for other cars, but not the correct spec for this one 🤦🏽‍♂️

Will monitor and report back after discussion with shop foreman.

Had the low oil indicator come on at 2700 miles. Added .5L and haven’t been able to get the system to remeasure regardless of procedure. I’m now wondering if the indicator was wrong and the 0.5L was too much thus causing the sensors to not measure oil level. Just going to schedule an oil change to be safe. Damn I miss a simple dipstick.

My mechanic informed me that all these horizontal engines use a bit of oil. Also, he also told me not to fill it to the full mark, about 3/4s is perfect. Something about crank case pressure, etc.

Some, but not all do seem to consume a bit of oil.

My current GT4 is my fourth P-car, but the only one to consume oil.

My prior 981 GT4 consumed no oil with regular hard use.
