Nothing you could accomplish with just collars or collars + OAP's will make your car an obnoxious nelly to the neighborhood. Just not possible.

Some observations on my end. Started with the collars 9mm from the top. To me that was pretty loud, and whether open or closed PSE there was more of a drone between 2-3K RPM. Still sounded great, but needed to play with it. Switched to 4-5mm from the lowest part and much more subtle. Definitely louder, but very different from 9mm from top. To my untrained ear, stock should be closer to this setting. Under this setting, also had 40+ miles highway driving and was not obnoxious at all.

Having said that, its too quiet! I'm going to now adjust 9mm from the bottom and see what that brings. Fun experimenting. Note, using 9mm again now as all this is based on small rubber templates I cut to length from unused gym flooring - at least gives me something i can jam in to measure and be consistent.

The collar mod is a game changer.

I have the Akropovic OAPs and slip on exhaust, with stock headers and cats.

I just did the collar mod, setting the collars so the the valves mostly stay open, only allowing for approximately a 1/4 of rod movement .

Start up is glorious and stays glorious even after the idle comes down.

The only drone I noticed was on the highway in 5th or 6th gear at 2400 rpms. If in 6th, I would down shift to 5th and the drone would disappear, rpm’s would increase to approx 2900 at 60 mph.

Running the car through the gears, where it once would go quite, just sounds so good now.

I wish I could hear it from outside the car with someone else driving.

Find a metric coupling nut to replace the canister nut, then add a large head bolt to the bottom of the nut and hopefully it will catch the arm of the rod mechanism and “stop” it.

In theory, it would be adjustable with the bolt’s locking nut…

I don’t know what the metric size is, hopefully there’s a coupling nut that will fit

Remove the canister nut and install the coupling nut to “catch” the upward swing of the arm and stop it.

Adjustable bolt and locking nut to control the amount of valve swing.

Does my explanation make sense?

Again, this is just an idea at this point, I don’t know if it will work or not.
Since the collar mod isn’t working for you, maybe you’ll want to play around with this idea.
very good idea
have you tried?
It is an M6 thread?

The stainless ones shouldn't rust.

My black oxide coated collars are already showing meaningful rust despite my car rarely seeing rain. I'll upgrade to a stainless set sometime soon, but figured I'd try the carbon steel set first for a few bucks to see if I liked them before making the big investment on a stainless set - lol.

Are you guys getting any fault codes in the 718 GTS with the collar mod? Afaik the movement should be tracked by the ecu and in case the actuator cannot reach its desired position it will set an fault code.

I've done it on the stock exhaust and now the Kline exhaust and no codes. I can see if the vacuum line has an issue and that would throw a code, but I can't see how the ECU would monitor the position of those valves, they're extremely crude devices. As long as it sucks it works!

The 2022 718 GTS models still use vacuum lines? I was thinking that was changed to a different system - but I didnt check on my car, so just an assumption from some forum posts.

You're thinking 992 exhaust with the motors.......... glad we don't have that to deal with, I'll take the crude valve over that.

Ahh maybe that! Thanks!
So count me in to try that one. Just to make sure i dont put the collar on the closed valve: how can I make sure they are open before putting the collar on?

When the ignition is turned off, the valve goes to the open position.

It'll be obvious once you crawl under there. The levers are fully extended when the engine is off and you can manually operate them to see what they do and how they do it. It's on or off.

McMaster Carr sells the collar in Aluminium, which should be a benefit for both Cost and Corrosion. (Part Number 9520T3)
