How rare are these cars?
#316
In my last 5 years of being obsessed with Porsche I have only seen 1 981 Spyder in the wild and a hand full of GT4's other then at car shows or dealers. I have never seen another 718 Spyder around in the wild here in south florida what is strange. You just don't see 718 Spyders anywhere from what I've seen. People are always asking me about my 718 Spyder wherever I go.

I know that there are other GT4s and Spyders in the area but I almost never see them on the road, even are weekly C&C fails to bring them out, perhaps those owners are busy or bought them for a different reason?
I do however take a hidden delight when I see drivers nearby moving about in their seat, slowing down and even passing me to get a peek at a name, but aren't successful. With model designation delete and black on black PORSCHE and Spyder you have to be pretty sharp to pick these out. The end result is usually a 👍 and acknowledging nod.
Oh and my favorite, school zones, a couple of them yesterday, the kids start yelling "nice car!" I always give them a thumbs up and a wave! Rare or not they certainly get noticed.

VIN Analytics is now showing 589 GT4s for 2021. My spreadsheet has 501 of those. I had intended to go back in to complete it, but as others have noted, they switched over to a pay by car setup. It appears that in the future, they may have the car in their "Collections" to allow us to see what a few of us did on our own.

I had shared these spreadsheets I made earlier in this thread, but I'll just share them again so people don't have to dig for them.
2020 Spyders: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1LW3...ew?usp=sharing
2021 Spyders: https://drive.google.com/file/d/13D9...ew?usp=sharing
The 2020 list is complete for all North American market cars. The 2021 list is missing some cars in the range WP0CC2A82MS240651 to WP0CC2A88MS240749, and missing option details for many cars. The data is missing because VIN Analytics started paywalling their data for VINs that hadn't been looked up previously. Nevertheless, my understanding is that all cars in that VIN range exist.
North American production numbers for Spyders are thus:
2020 Spyders: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1LW3...ew?usp=sharing
2021 Spyders: https://drive.google.com/file/d/13D9...ew?usp=sharing

At the DFW area (Maverick region PCA) Concours today...probably close to 100 Porsches entered and driven by spectators...my spyder was the only spyder there, either 718 or 981. I guess these are kind of rare.
Many very cool cars, but only one spyder.

Only one other green car, which at first I thought was python, but in fact was...ack...hmmm...emerald (?) green? (You can see my car in the background) And some misc other cool pics. That carmine red is so rich / deep. The cayenne is a home built special.

I spent the winter at my home in Naples (weather was great but the freedom was better - but a discussion for a different forum 😎 - from November to April and I only saw 1 Spyder (silver) and it wasn’t out and about. It was parked in valet lot at Ritz Carlton when I was there for dinner. I would see at least 4 C8 corvette’s everyday. So yes fairly rare to see in the wild down there. Pretty rare around the GTA as well. I suspect yours in green will be like Hen’s teeth. Congrats.

I see 1-2 718 GT4s or Spyders a week around me but we have a lot of higher end cars in my area.

I shouldn’t have added the quip about Florida. Like I said for a different venue/forum. This is a interesting thread and I didn’t want nor intend to derail - the point of my post is these cars are seem pretty rare and feel fortunate to have one. It is anecdotal obviously, as it just what I observe when I’m out and about. This is why the actual data specific numbers produced give a much better picture. The fact that I don’t see them often, for me, adds to uniqueness of the car.
