Default How rare are these cars?

I don't know if anyone has come across production numbers, but has anyone encountered another 718 GT4 or Spyder on the road? (Not at a car show)

If I remember correctly, my SA said around 200 GT4 in USA in 2020 but don’t quote me on it.

Is this going to be another "hidden" value thread? Geez!

much less likely to see any particular car on the road these days
and why would you see one? how often do you see a 2016 GT4 or Spyder tooling down the road?

The 2020 model year ones will definitely be more rare than the 2021 model years simply because of the factory shutdown. I mainly see Boxsters and 911s while driving (I'm excluding Macans, Cayennes, and Panameras... which the first two are plenty around here). Pretty rare to see a Cayman and never seen a GT4 on the road even though one of my co-workers has one and parks it in the office garage. More likely to see a GT3 than a GT4.

I came from a 981 Cayman GTS. During the 5 years I owned that car, I saw 2 Boxster GTSs in the wild. The only time I saw a 981 Spyder was once at a car show. I have seen one 981 GT4 on the road.

If "Rare" implies monetary value, then NOT rare.
If "Rare" implies how likely are you to see one on the road, then depends where you are but know that these are not limited edition/production cars. IMO, they will make enough to meet demand and therefore you will see more of them on the roads.

Didn't mean monetary value, relatively speaking. Most 911s cost more than these cars and there are plenty to be seen. The whole Cayman/Boxster line is much less visible than any other Porsche model in my experience, and while not strictly limited, these are not going to be high volume cars.

I think COVID May change that - production shut-downs, depressed market might cause Porsche to rethink and bail on some of the small volume series ....

Originally we all heard that these cars weren't going to be limited and anyone wanting an allocation will get one. I believe Covid has changed some things as well.
My dealership hasn't received any new allocations lately. My SA believes Porsche isn't going to provide them with all of the allocations they want or need.

Both of you may well be right and I also agree With others that the Spyder was never a common sight. Having stated that, I do think that the ultimate numbers manufactured and imported into the US market will depend on demand and production issues due to Covid, if hampered significantly, will only be delayed, not curtailed.

Those cars will not be rare, Porsche will build as many as they can sell before the model cycle ends. AP have already said exactly that at Goodwood when they launched the cars.
