2021 Spyders: https://drive.google.com/file/d/13D9...ew?usp=sharing

The 2020 list is complete for all North American market cars. The 2021 list is missing some cars in the range WP0CC2A82MS240651 to WP0CC2A88MS240749, and missing option details for many cars. The data is missing because VIN Analytics started paywalling their data for VINs that hadn't been looked up previously. Nevertheless, my understanding is that all cars in that VIN range exist.

North American production numbers for Spyders are thus:
  • Model year 2020: 410 USA, 144 Canada
  • Model year 2021: 700 USA, 120 Canada (approximate, including cars with details missing from my spreadsheet)
Hmm, don't see my VIN or Shark Blue on the list for 2021 Spyders.

I am pretty sure that is what @wizee said, some VINS will not be listed for 2021 as he was not able to get them from Vin Analytics...

Are you in the range of missing VIN's he lists, if you want you could reach out to him and share your VIN.

Think SB was a late 21 add and about the same time VA shut down it’s public portal.

Mine is in the 82N range ending in the mid 200’s. I don’t see any 82N’s. I picked my Spyder up 12-11-21, was ordered in the beginning of 9-21 and was started to be built in the beginning of October 2021.

Right, was built towards the end of the year in October 21.

An N VIN is a model year 2022, even if was built in calendar year 2021. My 2021 list only has model year 2021 (M VINs), and my 2020 list only has model year 2020 (L VINs).

LOL, right, mines a 22, lol. I’m tired. Guess they haven’t released the 22 #’s yet.

Those RL spreadsheets were built by data mining and logging VINanalytics data manually…one VIN at a time.

VA has firewalled that capability and PCNA doesn’t release detail at that level.

Going by VIN numbers on VINWiki and historic USA-Canada ratios, that sounds about right. As ballpark figures, I’d estimate around 2000 for the US market and 500 for the Canadian market, at the end of four model years of production.

You can use a VIN calculator to go through to correct each one as there is a sequential formula to each car. I used this one:

http://www.alton-moore.net/vin_calculation.html

It takes time, but it’s possible. I used it a ton for the 987.2 Spyder. Downloaded every single car build sheet.
I used to do that about two years ago, had a script that went through cars.com and analyzed each Porsche.
Sadly it doesn't seem to work anymore as VIN analytics charges per VIN and I couldn't find a different method to automate this process.
If anyone knows of one - please let me know.

Just by going for what's available on the used market, I was a bit surprised to see there's significantly more Spyders/GT4s than GTS 4.0's for sale, which probably means the GTS 4.0 is more rare?

Even if you limit it to MY21-23, there's roughly 50-70% more GT cars than GTS's. I imagine that will change next year, but still.

Yeah... Based on ~400 spyders for MY2020 and ~700 spyders for MY2021….~2000 total spyders for USA would be an intellectual guess …given full year production for MY2022 and half year production for MY2023

Porsche build/sell fewer 718 than 911 so they are more rare overall. Mix in the limited number of 4.0l flat six 718 running around probably fewer than 5,000 total GTS4.0/GT4/Spyder if I had to guess. If you want to do what the corvette guys do and try to extrapolate how rare your car is based on color, trim, wheels etc, you could almost say you have a 1 of 1 vehicle.

I’ve seen two 718 Spyder’s in Greater Toronto Area in the wild from 2020 to 2022, not including a pre arranged meet up and drive with fellow Spyder enthusiast Jim Rockford. I’ve been coming down to my place in SW Florida for winters more often since Covid and only saw one down here - a silver 718 Spyder in the valet parking lot at The Ritz Carlton when I went there for dinner. That was until Tuesday afternoon when I was passed by a Miami Blue Spyder on I-75 (I was bummed I was not my GB Spyder).

As posted with pics on here, I purchased the Car Capsule back in 2020 to store and hibernate my car in for the winter. Well this year decided life is too short to drive a Spyder for less than half the year and this year had shipped down to my home in SW Florida. So glad I did that, fits in right at home here in the sunshine, the beach and palm trees.

With respect to the C8 corvette, my neighbour down here asked if he could use my garage down here to put his C8 in (he has motorcycles, and other cars), I said sure since I’m not down here in summer. GM did a great job with car - what a bang for your buck. Tough to argue with that. However, I see on average 4 to 5 C8’s down here in Naples everyday when I out and about. They are ubiquitous. There are 5 in my golf community alone where I live. For some this isn’t a big deal, but I like the rarity of the Spyder as I did with my Ferrari - it makes it that much more unique car. But to each their own, and if it’s the car that makes you feel good, I guess it shouldn’t matter how many there are. Just my 2 cents. (I guess more accurately a penny and 3/4 with the current exchange rate.)
