I had it too. Maybe happened 3 or 4 times in total. I’m at 2400 kilometres now and it hasn’t happened to me on last 4 or 5 drives (just over an hour on each drive - spirited - high revs - lots of shifting). I’m hoping it was just part of break in and was relieved to see others on here noting it on because at first you question your shifting.

Many people on the 981 GT4 forum have reported the same issue: https://rennlist.com/forums/gt4/9420...nd-update.html
Almost all the cases say it went away after completing break-in. Some had it on the original transmission in 2016, some had it after transmission replacement due to 3rd gear failure or recall, both groups mostly report it went away after a while. Most likely, the same issue here, since it’s the same transmission.
I haven’t received mine yet, but I’m curious to see if I’ll get this grind during break-in too.

My 2016 did it when it was new....but not a lot. I would recommend changing the transmission oil down the line and not wait for the Porsche recommended mileage. I did on mine and the transmission improved.

I am getting the 1-2 grind as well. Probably at least 5-6 times so far. My car has 600 miles and it’s been doing it since day 1. I also thought I didn’t depress the clutch in all the way, but that was not the case on all the other times. Happens occasionally when I shift at 4000-5000 rpm. Not reliably reproducible. My 981 GT4 had its transmission replaced because of something similar.
OP, did yours resolve?
Thanks.

I’d say take it easy on the first and second shift for the 600 miles or 1000km ,make sure you pop it into neutral before going into the second gate ,and not do the fast/hard shift first to second until 600 miles or so.

I’ve also notice that when I WOT in gear 1 to high rpm ,and If I try to pop it into neutral before going the second gate ,the second gate locks me out and I’m unable to shift to second. Had the same issue in the 981 spyder as well with 20000 km.

Happened to me yesterday for the first time. I’m at roughly 900 miles and decided that I needed to hear what the car sounded like at 7-7.5k. Apologies to any break-in purists but I had to do it. Of course the 1-2 grind definitely dulled the moment but I think I was trying to be too quick to avoid redline. Taking it out again later today and will report back if I have the issue again.

5900kms no grind since the 2 times in the first 1-2000kms it shifts like butter since break in. Although it still has me watching my 1-2 shift in the high RPMs but many times up to 8000rpm with no issues.

Picked up my car today, and got a short grind (more like a "chirp") going from 1-2 at a leisurely pace in the first ~40 miles. Wasn't going fast, casual shift, low-to-mid RPMs.
Very strange — never had this on my 981 Spyder or GT3 Touring. Hope it's not indicative of a looming gearbox issue down the line!

I have 600 miles now. Not one grind. You guys are scaring me though. Ha!! I haven't shifted above 5500 rpm yet.
Maybe the upper rpm band would be different. I'll probably hold off on going higher on my shifts until atleast 1000 miles.
