Default Gear 1-2 grind

Anyone experiencing the occasional grinding going from first to second ,very mild grinding noise. Clutch was fully engaged ,only happened a few times for me when I’m trying to make a quick shift around 4-5k rpm. Base on my research there are a few 981 spyder/gt4 guys that got the same issue ,most said the grinding completely disappear after 1000 miles or so ,gearbox needs to break in?

Thx Sausage416 for the post thought it was me yes it has happened twice. I'm usually clean on my shifts so had me puzzled when it happened.

This would occassionally happen on my 981 Boxster too, but never developed into any issue. This is a notchier gear shift anyway, but I haven't had any issues yet.

Hopefully it’s just transmission breaking in. I really don’t feel like going back and forth with the dealer for warranty. The grinding is kind of ruining my enjoyment of the car.

I hear you mine was early on if I remember and when I was flexing a bit on take off. I will post again if it happens. I think AndyE1976 has something with his comment for me its definitely one of the notchier gear shifts that I have had.

Yes, definitely had this occur to me at first and I chalked it up to trying to be too quick with the 1-2 shift. Early on (<500mi on the odometer) I just had to make conscious efforts to be really smooth and patient with the 1-2 shift.

It eventually went away with more miles (was totally gone before 1000mi), and now I can shift as quick as I like to. So I guess it's just some initial roughness with the transmission in the early stages that eventually smoothed out.

happened two times during past 2 months under quick shift from 1st to 2nd, I thought was my problem/cadence from old habit releasing clutch... hopefully not a design issue

I’ve had it happen about four times so far and thought I was just being too quick on the shift, but it seems like it happens when the clutch is fully depressed and I slightly miss the second gear gate. Now I’m slower on the 1-2 shift and make sure I hit the gate clean and it seems to have stopped. This is my fourth Porsche 6 speed and never had a problem until now. I’ll respond again if it persists and I get any information on it.

several of us reported this issue on our 2016 GT4s after the replacement campaign

I still get a grind from 1 to 2 every now and then, usually seems to happen when I'm shifting early
if I let the RPMs get above 4000 before shifting, it doesn't happen

This 1-2 shift grind seems pretty common during initial break-in. Happened to me as well a few times and now it appears to have resolved itself.

I think 2nd gear is just a little notchy. It typically won't happen going 3 to 2 because most of us are either rev matching or letting the computer rev match on the down shift.

I am getting the 1-2 grind as well. Probably at least 5-6 times so far. My car has 600 miles and it’s been doing it since day 1. I also thought I didn’t depress the clutch in all the way, but that was not the case on all the other times. Happens occasionally when I shift at 4000-5000 rpm. Not reliably reproducible. My 981 GT4 had its transmission replaced because of something similar.

OP, did yours resolve?
Thanks.

+1... was a quick shift from 1st to 2nd and the first time I was up high with rpm (around 6k) as i'm ending with the brake in.

Felt very weird as the grind/vibration was noticeable (felt) in the clutch pedal. The gear engaged anyway but scared the hell out of me, though I screwed big time... I'm being very careful now and taking my time to engage from 1st to 2nd, so no more quick shifts for now. I hope this is just part of the break-in. If happens again I'll report back
