I am curious how is everyone dealing with this.

Change your shifting to avoid the grind, under the assumption that as the transmission is more broken in, it will go away?

Or don’t change how you shift, let it grind away and hopefully it will get worse, more reproducible and get a replacement box?

With a 4 year warranty, wonder if these cars will accumulate enough mileage to see the long term effects before the warranty runs out.

Similar philosophies on how we break-in the cars?

I drive like I normally drive. No changes. Haven’t heard it since the dealer did the transmission fluid change at 1200 miles. I’m at 2000 now.

+1 business as usual I have not had it since the few occasions in the first 2000kms. I was keeping an eye on my 1-2 shifts for awhile currently at 12,481kms with no further grinds. Now my OCD is focused on what appears to be loose piece on my shifter ****

I haven’t experienced it for a while now (I can’t remember exactly but I would guess after 800 or so miles).

On today’s drive, I tried my best to provoke it but couldn’t. However, the few time it happened, I was never able to induce it at will neither.

Sounds like a good plan to me - I’m doing similar indefinitely but then I don’t competitively track / if I did I’d go PDK

I’ve been lifting the throttle just a pinch more for 1->2 than the other changes. I’ll get the transmission fluid changed soon and hopefully it’ll be fine.

Could the grind be caused by excessive speed mismatch overcoming synchro ? No throttle blip of course for upchanges! The fact that it occurs so intermittently suggests to me a human variable rather than a mechanical one ...

As long as it takes? I figure there is no point in trying to cause the problem, it is documented in my cars service history as a complaint, if/when it is recognized by Porsche as requiring remedial action I can follow up with the dealer then, or perhaps as we get more of the GT cars past XXXX thousand of KM/Miles and we determine that this is just part of the transmission breaking in then I haven't unnecessarily filled the transmission fluid with debris.

Still happening periodically at 1800 miles. Only happens when am really on it shifting from first to second (above 5000 rpms).

Thanks for the reference, I am just over 1800 miles so a bit behind. I talked to a GT4 owner yesterday who confirmed his car had the 1-2 grind in the beginning, but now past 7500 miles he hasn't experienced it for awhile... he tracks a lot.

I’m at 1400 miles and no grinding at all. I’m not taking it over 5500 rpms yet, but I’ve done many 1-> 2 shift above 5000 without the slightest hint of a grind. I’m wondering if it could somehow be related to the auto blip. The AB shouldn’t have any effect on the synchros (and shouldn’t engage on upshifts), but I don’t know how it works. I’m just throwing that out there as a variable because I have never used AB (frankly, I forgot I had it). If everyone who is experiencing this routinely activates AB, and those who have not typically have AB off, that would be telling. It’s a long shot. The AB system has to know when the clutch is full depressed and when the shifter is in the process of moving from one gear to the next. If the timing were off a hair...I don’t know. I still don’t see how that could impact the synchros, but I’m curious anyway...

Ha! Mercurial, I just saw your post! We had the same idea.
