After 2800 miles, I am finding the OEM exhaust to sound MUCH better overall. It still suffers from multiple personality disorder, however, I found the sound when on throttle between 4000-8000rpm to be absolutely fine. At low rpms it is quiet, but since I cruise at low rpms, I am not sure I want it loud anyway. Although wind management in the Spyder is quite good, there is still wind noise, and a loud exhaust on top of that may just be too much for stable cruising with the top down (or up since it is a poorly insulated top). I was going to go in on the Akra OAP group buy, but I am going to hold off. I want to hear some more good sound clips. It may still be worth it for the power and torque gain, but really, when I am in a spirited driving mood, and keeping the revs up, the exhaust sounds great IMO.

Does anyone truly not like the exhaust sound when on throttle, and in sport mode (valves open) between 4000-8000rpm?

Would you call it a very loud system? Thanks, and enjoy.
I’m on oem valve setting ,cruising in taller gears at a lower rpm valves are closed ,there is zero drones. It’s loud when calves are open ,but not obnoxiously loud.

Thanks buddy ,are you still planning on installing headers? I’m still deciding if I want to add the soul headers and a tune to free up some hp next season lol.

@JCR-Porsche Any updates on your over-axle pipes? Or the non-valved rear section?

IMO seems like you guys have the sound I'm looking for, but I don't really need the valves.

Thank you. Since you're not using a separate valve controller, what are your thoughts about the transition from closed to open? Others seem to be saying that open becomes louder with opf delete pipes, and closed not much different. This would seem to indicate a more noticeable transition in sound as your revs climb above 4k in first gear, for example. Is that very unnatural sounding...annoying?
Thanks again.

I liked this a lot.
Too bad it's that expensive.
And Porsche's warranty is way too strict

This settles it ,with an exhaust the 718 sounds better than the 981.

To me, the new 4.0 sounds better than 981, more mechanical, more Mezger-y, less farty/crackly even with oem exhaust, especially above 4k rpm.

!00% agree, I doubt I would ever go for the full deal, just a bit much for me, but I can't wait to get the GPF delete pipes on!
