Not so sure, because the manual is saddled with 6 spd manual. Wider ratios than a 7 or 8 speed PDK. Combined with 50ms shifting, the closer gear ratios may make the PDK 4.0 GTS hard to beat.

But i don't see any mention of a PDK with the new 4.0 GTS. So this may be the real problem.

Are the GT4 and the new GTS 4.0 riding on the same width wheels?
Is it just a difference of fatter tires that you could also put on the GTS 4.0?
Cayman GT4....
245/35 ZR 20 on 8.5 J × 20 front
295/30 ZR 20 on 11 J × 20 rea

Cayman GTS 4.0
235/35 ZR 20 at the front
265/35 ZR 20 at the rear

Doesn't say what size wheels are on the GTS 4.0

EDITED: Looked up Carrera Sport wheel 20 inches.. which I would option for
and they apparently are the same 8.5x11 size as GT4..
So I assume fatter GT4 tires would fit fenders/PASM of GTS?

Wouldn't be surprised if the wheel widths are unchanged, the 20"s on the Cayman/Boxster are 10" in the rear. 265 would be too narrow for 11" wheel.

They are the same as the 981 Spyder wheels.

I wonder if they'll put this motor in a 911 at some point?? Maybe for the Carrera T line. IMO it would be a more fitting option than the base Carrera motor with a mild bump in boost.

We'll see. They've denied it would go in the 911. Doesn't mean it won't happen eventually.

Any guesses as to how the depreciation curve on the 2.5GTS will be affected?

Imagine 5 years from now, you're looking to buy a gas powered Cayman GTS. There's an '18 4T GTS for sale and '20 GTS 4.0 for sale, all options, condition, and mileage about the same. Let's even say the '20 GTS is a little more expensive since it's 2 years newer. Which are you going to buy?

I've said it many times, Porsche didn't make any special versions of the 718--no limited production models--nothing to buy in hopes it'll reach classic status. The 4.0 will be considered something more special to own in the future. Its door badge is even different! ===> GTS 4.0

That's the enthusiasts view. Sources that value used cars probably won't see it much different, and the value will have all to do with MY, condition, mileage, color, zip code, etc. Try to trade in either at Porsche dealer 5 years from now and they'll **** you off with how little they want to give you. It's not an emotional exchange to the dealer. Dealers aren't enthusiasts.

What is factual is that dealers are already shying away from taking in 718s on trade. They know it'll sit at the dealer six months, and they'll eventually have to give it away.

The sun is going to rise tomorrow. I don't see the GTS 4.0 being sold in any number. I doubt it has much impact that isn't already reflected in the price given the apparent low demand for an expensive two seater. For sure, the GTS 4.0 will hurt some, just not a lot IMO.
Supply and demand do rule the world folks, so if you all run for the exits at once prices will suffer.

FWIW, I am someone who would not have bought a 4-cylinder Cayman but would strongly consider the 6-cylinder. I also really like the base options on this GTS (manual, sport exhaust, sport chrono, I think). That said, what I really want is a car that you can go to the dealer and order without drama. I am OK with MSRP, but I am not OK with waiting lists, you have to be a great customer of the dealer, maybe you might get one, etc. That was what turned me off to the 718 GT4 (I don't think I could have gotten one anyway). If the GTS is more of that, I think Porsche has really lost its way.

At some point, you have to sell cars at MSRP, and if you specialize in offering lots of options, you have to let people order them how they want them without a lot of drama.

GTS 4.0 allocations may be tight at the beginning … but remember GTS.. is a car with this engine emission compliant till at least 2023..
you won't pay over MSRP at beginning and likely to get some discount as production ramps up..
If that is your experience with your SA/Dealer.. buy from someone else

Im not a traditionalist.
I love my 3.0 turbo based 911.2
In my opinion, it drives better than the 3.8 NA from 991.1, but the 991.1 sounded better. I bought used so I could chose either. 991.2, instant torque, low lag, awesome!

The 2.5 is in the same ballpark. Throw in a Cobb, and lights out.

I also had a little Supercharged Lotus Elise. 4 banger, Toyota based, great fun. Never once did I think, man wish I had a 6 cylinder.

I hope in 2-3 years, I can pick up an 18 or 19 GTS for 40k, because it's a 4 cyl FI vs 6 cyl NA.

I won't care what the purists and traditionalists say, 718 GTS is a heck of a car.
