Not sure if this has been posted before, but sport auto lapped the ring 7:16. Looks like Cup2R tires, no A/C (lightest weight), mag wheel car. I feel a bit underwhelmed with this time given Sport Auto lapped the ring 7:13 I think with a 2017 C7 Z06 - and that car was manual transmission. 5 year newer car, R tires, wheels that weigh literally half of what comes on that Z06 (cast wheels made in China that weigh 32 lbs - no kidding). Not sure what to think of it. I get the aural pleasure of this car but Porsche held it back in the chassis department.

Well ya. We all know they held it back, its still got the same Strut suspension as the normal cayman.

I've got to assume that folks like CMS Performance, among others, will be offering to fill that void. But to be clear, is it certain that an American buyer cannot purchase a genuine Porsche GT4 RS roll cage through a European Porsche dealer's parts department and ship it to the US?

I guess they're protecting big brother 992 GT3 and the new 3RS.
There's always the GT4 multi link rear suspension kit that's available. I'm wondering if that'll make a big difference.

I dont think its just the suspension. There is no RWS. No e-diff. Corvette also has no RWS but it does have 285 front tires that help it turn much better. It comes with e-diff as well - unlike Porsche, even manual transmission vettes get the same e-diff.

Three Wheelin'
Some 9 inch front wheels and then some 265/305 tires would definitely help the car go faster.

Anyone have pictures of the exhaust system? I'm wondering if they have a similar layout as the GT4 where off the headers (which include cats) you have the OAP pipes with the particular filters which then go to the muffler.

First there's the weather. Sport Auto only get 1 shot for their lap time session so whatever the weather conditions are is what they run with. There's quite a few seconds gained or lost for relatively minor climatic changes. Secondly, there's not a lot of time to practice for the Sport Auto driver and some cars are easier to drive fast than others. Bergmeistester did hundreds of laps in development and had a full team behind him and brand new Cup 2R for every lap attempt. These tires will have been well run in by the time he got to the best lap of the day, especially with the R tire the first lap is the "magic" one. It's also been pointed out that the GT4 RS is the fastest car on tires this small (245 and 295) everything faster has a lot more rubber.
Even an amateur like me can see a lot of time was left on the table on that lap from lack of confidence. Through Schwedenkreuz his min. speed was 20 k's below Bergmeister. The bit from 4:30 onwards to the carussel is very slow after he got spooked by the rear instability under high speed braking. Etc.
But, sure, I think the GT4 RS is not particularly suited to the Nordschleife. It's too stiff and edgy on that track, but I think it's probably the correct tradeoff because on most normal tracks around the world the car will be better for it. The Ring requires unusual suspension compliance and composure to give the driver maximum confidence. The 4RS will work relatively better on modern race tracks.

Also worth noting, track and weather conditions can make up a ~2+ seconds on a ~3 mile tracks...how long is the Nurburgring? 14 miles?
Just a racer's perspective...the lap times are great marketing pieces, but there are too many variables outside of the car and driver.

If someone would rather look at comparison on more typical modern track, the Sport Auto test included Hockenheim too (#51 here):

The OAP looks similar to the aftermarket, resonated OAP options for the standard Spyder / GT4 - more streamlined for sure.
