Default George and Rich still alive....189mph 928-S4? Flatline...

Quick Bonneville 100 ORR update......George and I are fine, but the 928 not so much. Blew the engine at 185+mph. Really was a non-event as it was happening, George did everything right, pulled us down from 185+mph, couldn't stop in time for the first check-point so we managed to coast quite a bit to the next safe area and pull off the course. We made 189mph on the first leg, blew the motor at the start of the open speed trap during the second leg. Full story later. The other Porsche guys did great!

Consider that a win (at the cost of a motor)
Now, wonder why it failed.
Was the engine using Mobil 1 ?

I think that motor is my hero. It died a hero's death in battle- Dr. Porsche is looking down smiling I think.

Keep up the good work!

Im double sorry to hear that!

2:2 rear end i imagine, so when you do those events, you are running 5500rpm for how long?

interested to hear of the failure report.

What a shame!

Hey, just kidding about the Amsoil. True, George was using it. True, the car broke down. Related? Not true unless it was from excessive oil pressure. George's car is a 90 with a 2.54 rear end.

My car was running M1 and did not break down; therefore M1 is better.

Funny, I saw this thread before any replies and decided to take the high road instead of asking the Amsoil question... oh well.

Hello all. Thanks for all your positive support.

We had run the first 50 mile leg of the Bonneville 100 with an average speed 160.160 mph
with a top speed of 188 mph. On the second leg (down hill) we were hoping to get to the low
190s, but it wasn't to be. I've got a video of the second leg that I'll upload tomorrow.

My S4 has been dropped off at Motorsports in SLC. It's pretty sure that it was a blown head
gasket that caused the problem. Dave and company will check out the motor and get back
to me about it's condition. It's hoped to have the motor back together before the next event
in July. I was running Amsoil, but I don't think that had much to do with the problem. The
car was running about 6000 rpm at 188 mph when the trouble started.

I had just talked to Dave about getting Cometic Gaskets on Friday night, and was planning to
get them installed latter this year. Just bad timing I guess.
