Rennlist‘s Five Fave Porsches from the 2019 CCA Restoration Show
Porsches like the 968 Sport, 911T, and 924 Le Mans among the many gems up for bid in Birmingham, England March 23 and 24.
Porsche has built quite a few classics over the past seven decades. Of course, there’s the iconic 911, but there are others out there, too, like the 959 and the 356 A. Nearly everything ever to leave Stuttgart has a great importance to the history of our beloved brand.
The other day, we happened upon a few Porsches getting ready to cross the auction block at the 2019 edition of the Classic Car Auctions Practical Classics Classic Car & Restoration Show, set for March 23 and 24 in Birmingham, England. Of the cars we saw, here are five of our favorites.
1994 Porsche 968 Sport
This 968 Sport is actually one of 306 Club Sports built for the British market, powered by a 3.0-liter inline-four paired with a six-speed manual. It’s only had four owners in its 25 years, the current owner having held the 968 for 12 years. A rarity among the last front-engined, water-cooled, rear-drive Porsches made before the Cayenne SUV arrived nearly a decade later.
1980 Porsche 924 Le Mans
And speaking of rare, this 924 Le Mans is one of 14 (out of 100 originally sold in the UK) still on the English roads today, becoming, in the words of CCA, “a fast appreciating, usable, classic car.” The 924 is in top condition, and still has its original service book and owner’s manual. Truly an excellent piece of Porsche history.
1970 Porsche 911T
This one’s more of a fixer-upper, but it’s one lovely project car. The red 1970 911T is left-hand drive, has its original 2.2-liter boxer with five-speed manual, and only 2,500 miles ever made in the four decades it’s been on the road. The engine hasn’t run in a year, but it does have a 911 Carrera RS ducktail lid for extra style.
2003 Porsche 911 Carrera 4S
The 996-era 911 may not be everyone’s favorite 911, but we love this clean example in Midnight Blue and tan leather interior. It has a set of Xenon headlights to really light the way, and a new set of Michelins to keep the Carrera 4S firmly planted to the tarmac. We can certainly see ourselves in this beauty.
1989 Porsche 928 S4
Finally, this “lovely honest” 928 S4 is not only treated well, but clearly loved as the driving machine it is. The important bits were rebuilt, the interior is “lived-in,” and we’re sure the 5.0-liter V8 sounds as wonderful as the 928 looks.
