Porsche 356A Outlaw Coupe

Replica used to be a dirty word in the car world, but this Porsche repop does a fantastic job of giving us the best of everything.

In the automotive world, “replica” has long been somewhat of a dirty word. But thanks to a handful of high-quality builders in this day and age, that’s quickly changing. And quite honestly, if you’re going to build a modified, “Outlaw” classic Porsche, why not do it with a kit rather than cut up a pricey original? Thus, we give our seal of approval to this tastefully done ’57 Porsche 356A Coupe replica that we spotted over at The Classic Car Network.

Built by JPS Motorsports, this Speedster certainly looks the part. With a deep black paint job, added lighting, and Fuchs-style wheels, you might even mistake it for the real deal. But this particular Porsche was constructed on 1969 Volkswagen underpinnings, and packs, of all things, a Subaru engine. The JDM 2.5-liter DOHC mill produces a healthy 230 hp and is backed up by a beefed up transmission.

The suspension underneath this “Porsche” is most certainly nothing you’d expect in a classic car, either. From the independent rear suspension to the beefy sway bars and adjustable shocks, this thing was obviously built to drive. Four-wheel disc brakes ensure the lightweight ride comes to a stop in a hurry, while the Carrera-style seats and 4-point belts keep you firmly planted.

With a host of modern amenities, this Porsche replica is a perfect mix for sports car fans. Here’s a car that looks every bit as cool as a vintage 356. Yet you don’t have to worry about keeping it locked up in storage. Instead, you can head out and enjoy it on some twisty mountain roads. And you’ll look every bit as cool as you would in the real thing!
