Rennlister’s Porsche 944 Wins Chicago Hot Wheels Legends Tour

By -

Our favorite custom Porsche 944 scores a coveted shot at getting forever immortalized with a die-cast Hot Wheels replica.

2018 is a special year for our favorite toys as Hot Wheels marks 50 years of filling our virtual childhood garages with sweet rides. To celebrate, the company is smack in the middle of the Hot Wheels Legends Tour, an effort to find the next great custom car to immortalize with a die-cast replica. The tour just blew through the Windy City of Chicago. And this time, the winner was a car most of you are probably familiar withRennlister Brian Bergeron‘s Porsche 944.

Bergeron’s ride is the latest wild custom picked for the contest, which wraps up just in time for the 2018 SEMA show, taking place October 30-November 2. It’s there that one lucky contestant will be chosen to have their ride forever immortalized as a Hot Wheels die-cast car. Cars are chosen based in three criteria: authenticity (aka “Hot Wheels-ness”), originality, and a “built not bought” garage spirit. It’s safe to say that Bergeron’s incredible widebody Porsche 944 perfectly embodies all three.

Porsche 944

Bergeron has been a Porsche 944 fan for life. But a desire to build a more competitive autocross ride led to this – what he calls Widerstandsfahig #1. It still sports a 944 chassis, but everything has been modified and/or fabricated by his own hands. That includes the widened fenders, chassis, and stripped-down yet gorgeous interior. It was also the beginning of his business, also dubbed Widerstandsfahig. To date, he’s built a total of four such cars.

Porsche 944

Obviously, we’re pulling for Bergeron and his incredible Porsche 944 to win the whole shebang this fall. And it isn’t just because we want to see a Hot Wheel wearing a Rennlist sticker on the back. Just like the real-life car on which it’s based. Bergeron is an incredibly talented guy, and he deserves to be rewarded for that talent. So you can bet we’ll be rooting for him (and scoping out his ride) at SEMA!
