Is a wild, winged, blazing-red Porsche GT3 the way to go, or would you rather have the sleeper touring model?

For most of us, securing a new, special Porsche like the 911 GT3 is a thrilling but tough endeavor. And when you are finally graced with the capability of building your dream car, perhaps you already know exactly how you’re going to spec it out. But on the flip side, some of these decisions can be tough to make. That’s exactly the situation Rennlister PorscheStrong found himself in recently. Thus, he did the smart thing and headed to the forums seeking some advice on how to build his dream 911 GT3.

“On a day of thanks, I am especially grateful to have recently received an open build slot for a 2019 model year GT3…at MSRP!” writes PorscheStrong. “Kudos to my dealer for coming through and being true gentlemen for honoring their word when I went on the waitlist 2+ years ago. Now for the hard part: what do I build? I find myself drawn towards two opposing concepts. One – a louder, winged beast of a race car. The second – a more subdued machine, a sleeper in every way except performance.

A tough choice, indeed. And the OP has valid reasons for both.

The latter is more suited to my personality, but I love Guards Red. And my Spyder already gives me the more quiet version, as it is white on black. My current build is a loaded, red, winged car. But I’m having second thoughts. Perhaps in part because going with the Touring car would enable me to mentally justify keeping my 997TT (also red/black). Which I’m loath to sell, needing neither the funds nor garage space. But I feel compelled to do so if I’ve got a nearly identical GT3 inbound. My order locks on 11/30.

Here are the builds:

Red/Black – Winged

GT Silver/Black – Touring

Tough choices, indeed. But as you might imagine, plenty of members chime in with their personal thoughts on this matter. Including Ryanrayburn, who understands the difficulty of this choice.

“Man that is a tough decision. I personally love the looks and the idea behind the touring package. However, I feel like the GT3 should be an in-your-face loud race car. My vote would be the winged version. A lot of options are personal preference. However, having owned a .1 GT3 and now a .1 GT3RS, I believe  that front axle lift and PCCB are must-have options.

The only other option to consider would be the smoking package. So it covers up the open space in the center console and deviated seat belts, if that is something you like. Such a fun process either way, and I am sure you will enjoy whichever you choose.”

Sure enough, the OP plans to use his Porsche on the street and not the track. But plenty of folks, including reacher, still suggest going for the full-on GT experience.

“Get the red one! Experience the real GT3 experience before you go for a touring. There are a million subdued looking wingless Porsche models. But only the GT models look the way they do. Don’t forget to add PCCB to your red build as well.”

So far, responses to this question are roughly 50/50. So the OP needs your help! Head over here and tell us (and him) which version of the GT3 you’d opt for.
