Steelers’ Antonio Brown Nailed for Speeding in 911 GT3

Top wide receiver for Pittsburgh caught while local police were looking for a bank robber who fled on foot.

If you’re a big-name pro athlete, like LeBron James, Tom Brady, or Bryce Harper, you’ll likely have a big contract filling all of your accounts with cash. Some of it will go to a big house, of course, with a few more hundred thousand or so toward buying cars for your big house.

If you’re big-name pro athlete, you might also think you can get away with nearly anything, like speeding hours before the big game. It didn’t go so well for Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver Antonio Brown, though. Pittsburgh CBS affiliate KDKA-TV reports the top wide receiver was caught in his 911 GT3 by the Ross Township Police Department going over 100 mph.

Of course, the police weren’t looking for Brown or his black 911 GT3 at the time. According to KDKA, they were looking for a man who had robbed the WesBanco on Duncan Avenue, specifically a “white male 25-30 years of Nike sweatshirt orange with maroon sleeves and blue jeans.”

The suspect fled on foot, meaning the police had no idea what vehicle he might take to escape, and therefore, were on the lookout for anyone suspicious. Thus, officers positioned themselves nearby on McKnight Road, including one at McKnight and Babcock “in case he goes south on McKnight.” Moments later, a 911 GT3 blows by the southbound officer “in excess of 90 [mph].”

Three officers helped the reporting officer catch the 911 GT3, hoping they finally got their man, only for the main officer to inform dispatch that he was “10-4, it’s going to be Antonio Brown.” Two officers remained to write up the wide receiver for going over 100 mph in a 45 mph, while also informing him of the robbery nearby.

“Dear [Steelers], Please remind your players that when traveling on McKnight Road in [Township of Ross] they should leave the weed at home and avoid speeds in excess of 100 MPH,” Ross Township commissioner Steve Korbel tweeted to the organization later that afternoon. The Steelers front office made a statement of their own, saying the team was “aware of the situation, but we are still gathering information. We won’t have any further comment at this time.”

According to The Drive this isn’t the first time a Steelers player was caught on McKnight, as estranged running back Le’Veon Bell was with marijuana possession after being stopped by the township police.

As for Brown, he made an appearance on the field later that evening, catching one of quarterback Ben Roethlisberger’s seven touchdowns as the Steelers beat the visiting Carolina Panthers. His license may fumble out of his hands for six months if he pleads guilty, though.
