2005 Porsche Cayenne Turbo

Porsche Cayenne Turbo is 15 years old, but it is in remarkable condition inside and out.

If you own a Porsche sports car and you live in a part of the United States that gets a snowy winter, the odds are good that your beloved German machine is tucked safely away. Some owners who have all-wheel-drive models might still be enjoying their sports car, but most go without their Porsche fix during the harsh winter months.

Some fans of the brand who insist on driving a Porsche year-round may have already purchased one of the brand’s popular sport utility vehicles, but if you are hunting for a used Cayenne on a tight budget, “Bentone” might have the perfect new-to-you vehicle. This 2005 Cayenne Turbo was posted to the Rennlist Marketplace with a price of $17,950, making it an affordable option for a high-quality winter vehicle.

Porsche Cayenne Introduction

When the OP first posted this 2005 Porsche Cayenne Turbo for sale, he included a quick look at the history of the vehicle and the features fitted to this particular German SUV. The OP also pointed out the key areas of concern with the first generation Cayenne, both of which have already been addressed.

2005 Cayenne Turbo with 90k miles, all-stock and in excellent condition. Classic silver exterior with black leather interior, with black Alcantara highlights (headliner, pillars). Strong 450hp twin-turbo 4.5 liter V8 with automatic transmission. Very difficult to find a low-mileage first-gen Cayenne Turbo in this kind of condition.

Owned for the last 3 years (since 2017) by long-term PCA members in the Washington, DC area. Clean CarFax. I am the fourth owner.

All the usual power options plus parking sensors, tow hitch, heated memory seats, wood trim steering wheel, sunshades for rear windows, xenon headlights, universal garage door opener, rain-sensing wipers. Adjustable air suspension and differential locks are in excellent working condition.

Has an aftermarket Bluetooth device that replaces the stock CD changer; you can stream music and make calls through the stock navigation system. It hooks into the CAN bus and was installed with no cutting or wiring changes and can be easily removed if you want.

These cars are generally reliable but there are two things that every first-gen Cayenne owner must fix: replacing the plastic coolant pipes with metal, and replacing the driveshaft. Both are pretty much guaranteed to fail around 75k miles; this car has both of those issues fixed.

Usual maintenance completed – fluids and filters (all), spark plugs, coils, battery, engine torque mount, both rear hatch and rear window shocks, new MAFs, etc. Body overall in excellent condition. No known accidents. Stock 19″ wheels with new Continental Extreme Contact DWS all-season tires. Interior is very clean; no rips or tears, everything looks very nice. Very little bolster wear on driver’s seat. Carpet and mats are in nice condition.

Wish I could keep this truck but garage space is running low. Would like to sell quickly, but will be patient for the right buyer. Preference is to sell to another enthusiast. Clean title in hand, freshly detailed and ready to go!

Drive through Winter, the Build

The nice thing about the Cayenne is that it offers the interior space and all-wheel-drive functionality of a big SUV, but it was engineered with the heritage of the Porsche brand in mind. As a result, these big SUVs are fun to drive in the summer and unstoppable in the winter. That makes this a great option for someone looking for a ride from Stuttgart to enjoy in the snowy months, but what do you do come springtime? If you have a 911, the odds are good that you won’t want to drive a stock Cayenne, but consider this.

Buy this Cayenne, drive it through this winter in its current, stock form. Come spring, begin enjoying your Porsche sports car and park this SUV. While it is parked for the warm months, add some upgrades like a tune, exhaust, maybe some custom wheels and by next winter, you will have a modified, twin turbocharged Porsche SUV to rule the roads in the snow.

"Before I was old enough to walk, my dad was taking me to various types of racing events, from local drag racing to the Daytona 500," says Patrick Rall, a lifetime automotive expert, diehard Dodge fan, and respected auto journalist for over 10 years. "He owned a repair shop and had a variety of performance cars when I was young, but by the time I was 16, he was ready to build me my first drag car – a 1983 Dodge Mirada that ran low 12s. I spent 10 years traveling around the country, racing with my dad by my side. While we live in different areas of the country, my dad still drag races at 80 years old in the car that he built when I was 16 while I race other vehicles, including my 2017 Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat and my 1972 Dodge Demon 340.

"Although I went to college for accounting, my time in my dad’s shop growing up allowed me the knowledge to spend time working as a mechanic before getting my accounting degree, at which point I worked in the office of a dealership group. While I was working in the accounting world, I continued racing and taking pictures of cars at the track. Over time, I began showing off those pictures online and that led to my writing.

"Ten years ago, I left the accounting world to become a full-time automotive writer and I am living proof that if you love what you do, you will never “work” a day in your life," adds Rall, who has clocked in time as an auto mechanic, longtime drag racer and now automotive journalist who contributes to nearly a dozen popular auto websites dedicated to fellow enthusiasts.

"I love covering the automotive industry and everything involved with the job. I was fortunate to turn my love of the automotive world into a hobby that led to an exciting career, with my past of working as a mechanic and as an accountant in the automotive world provides me with a unique perspective of the industry.

"My experience drag racing for more than 20 years coupled with a newfound interest in road racing over the past decade allows me to push performance cars to their limit, while my role as a horse stable manager gives me vast experience towing and hauling with all of the newest trucks on the market today.

"Being based on Detroit," says Rall, "I never miss the North American International Auto Show, the Woodward Dream Cruise and Roadkill Nights, along with spending plenty of time raising hell on Detroit's Woodward Avenue with the best muscle car crowd in the world.
