New DVD series, torque spec books, and specialty tool rentals make rebuilding a Porsche engine easy even for novices.

Rebuilding an engine is obviously a love affair, but it’s also a somewhat complicated process. Porsche powerplants are certainly glorious works of art, but they also require care and precision during assembly for them to function at their desired level. But while most opt to leave this sort of job to a pro, there’s nothing more satisfying than rebuilding an engine with your own two hands. And a brand new DVD series from Rennlist members Jake Raby, Charles Navarro, and Tony Callas figures to make the process much easier for those working on Porsche’s M9X series of engines.

The trio recently conducted an instructional class dubbed Hands On: M96 Engine Rebuild. The event attracted a host of enthusiasts and technicians from all over the world. But they also just put the finishing touches on a comprehensive DVD series chronicling the entire process – Focus On: M9X Engine Assembly. The educational video series covers the entire, step-by-step process on how to assemble a 3 or 5 chain M9X Porsche engine from a pile of parts to a long block. It’s so detailed, in fact, that the group even claims a novice with little experience can do it.

Impressive, indeed. But this is a trio of extremely knowledgeable gentleman with decades of experience. Raby is the inventor and developer of IMS Retrofit and IMS Solution. He is also the founder and owner of Flat 6 Innovations. Along with Raby Engine Development, Raby Aircooled Technology, and The Knowledge Gruppe. Navarro is the owner and operator of LN Engineering, and Callas is a former racer who know runs the highly respected Callas Rennsport.

The 15-hour DVD series consists of 20 chapters of content. Each broken up so that viewers can use it in place of a written workshop manual. This allows you to pause the video at any point and carry out that step before moving on. If you are unsure about a step, you can rewind and watch again. It’s a brilliant setup, and one that ensures anyone can complete this technical job with ease.

In addition to the DVD series, Raby has also published torque spec books for the Porsche 996 and 997. LN Engineering is currently offering these highly informative manuals at a discount. In addition, they’re also expanding their tool rental program. LN currently offers the rental of specialty tools like the Faultless Wrist Pin Tool Kit, Faultless Supplemental Engine Assembly Tool Kit, and Rear Main Seal Tool.

The idea behind all of this is to help Porsche fans learn how to work on their own cars. Without breaking the bank. And that’s something we can certainly get behind. So head over here to pick up your copy of the new DVD series, here for a 996 torque spec book, or here for the 997 version. You’ll also be able to add specialty tool rentals with your purchase, too. But in the long run, you’ll save a fortune over having a professional shop do the same work!
