Later-model Porsche 930 has virtually every desirable option any air-cooled collector could want.

In the world of the Porsche 911, all models are not created equally. At least in the minds of collectors and enthusiasts, that is. Certain model distinctions make certain 911s more desirable than others. Cars like the 930 Turbo carry a lot of weight based on their impressive performance. And sometimes, even the presence of a legendary gearbox like the G50 5-speed can make all the difference.

This particular Porsche that recently crossed the block at Silverstone’s Heythrop auction has both of those desirable attributes and more, making it a rather enticing ride. By 1988, the 930 had established itself as one of the best sports cars of any era. But it was also nearing the end, as the following model year marked the end of the 930 nomenclature and the beginning of the 964 Turbo.

One thing that did carry on into the 964 era, however, was the G50 transmission. The legendary 5-speed was so good, in fact, that Porsche didn’t bother changing it much until the need for an extra gear presented itself much later on. Today, any G50-equipped 911 is highly desirable, especially when fitted to a 930.

You won’t find any bones to pick with this gorgeous example in terms of aesthetics, either. The car proudly wears its massive whale tail and Targa top, two signature Porsche styling cues. The ravishing Guards Red-on-gray ride has traveled just over 70k miles. But you’d have a hard time telling given its impeccable condition.

When it comes to iterations of the iconic Porsche 911, they just don’t get much better than this. In a time when air-cooled performance was nearing its peak (and end), the right combination of options makes all the difference. And this particular car has virtually all of the desirable ones.
