Rennlist‘s Favorite Porsches from the Heythrop Park Auction
Silverstone Auctions’ latest two-day affair had quite a few cool Porsches up for grabs, including a few rarities.
When we’re not busy with the Porsches in our garages, we at Rennlist are looking at Porsches we’d like to add to our collection. Well, if we had just enough space and/or cash. Thus, we end up looking at a few auction sites, dreaming of what could be.
One of them, Silverstone Auctions, recently held its two-day May sale on the grounds of Heythrop Park in Oxfordshire, England, recently. The auction featured a handful of Porsches we thought were something truly special.
1988 Porsche 911 (930) Turbo Targa G50
We featured this 930 Turbo Targa a while ago, and why not? It’s a stunner in Guards Red with Linen leather seats for a luxurious ride, and it’s a rarity, being one of the few 930 Turbos equipped with the G50 five-speed manual before the 930 Turbo itself gave way to the 964 Turbo at the start of the Nineties.
1988 Porsche 944 Turbo
From the same year as the 930 is this 944 Turbo, whose Nougat Brown Metallic was only offered for the 1988 model year. It, too, has Linen leather, and it spent most of its life in a garage before registered to its first owner in February 2019. The 944 Turbo was driven over the years to keep things fresh, and serviced every year, as well.
1976 Porsche 911S 2.7 Targa
Here’s another classic 911, this one a 911S 2.7 Targa in Grand Prix White with a black vinyl and tartan fabric interior. This 911 spent its years tooling around Greece with the president of ELPA Automobile & Touring Club of Greece behind the wheel. The tartan really pops against the black vinyl, and with the top off, it’s a welcome place to ride or drive on a warm, sunny day.
1972 Porsche 911 2.4S
Before the 2.7-liter 911S arrived, there was the 911 2.4S. Like the one above, the 911 spent time in Southern Europe, specifically Italy, before moving north through the Netherlands into the United Kingdom. This car has the infamous ‘Oel Klappe’ oil filler cap, which more than a few full-service stations mistook for the gas cap, leading to more than a few repair bills before Porsche re-thought the idea shortly after its introduction.
1989 Porsche 911 Supersport Cabriolet
Targas not your thing, but you still want to praise the sun? This black beauty of a 911 Supersport Cabriolet should suffice. The Supersport option brought more than a few bits from the 930 Turbo, including suspension and braking components, plus the 930 Turbo’s tea-tray rear spoiler. This example is a rarity among rarities, too: only 75 Supersports were sold in the U.K. between 1984 and 1989 (half being cabriolets), 27 are still registered in the U.K., and five — like this one — were painted black.
2001 Porsche 911 (996) GT2 Clubsport
Finally, we have this ultra-rare 996 GT2 Clubsport. Of the 1,287 GT2s made during the 996 era of the 911, 70 were Clubsports. Of those, only 17 such cars landed in the United Kingdom, including this right-hand drive model which was owned by an amateur driver and his team for a good number of years before a fledgling restaurateur added it to his collection.
