I've read good things about there later tyres including RE003 and S04. Paul used to rave about his RE050 track tyres. One thing about the Japanese rubber is that it's very reasonably priced. I might try it again next time....
I think I've had 5.5 different sets of road tyres (S01, Pierreli Pzero, PS2, rE11 X 1.5, MPSS), on the 993 over 60,000 km and 16 years. The only set I didn't run to the end were the Pierrelis- took them off after 5000km as I didn't like them. so far the MPSS were my favourite but come at a cost that I don't think is justified given I end up smearing them all over the road in less than 10,000 km.
If we could all put together an annual order we could order them from tirerack, have then ground shipped to west coast and then have then consolidated by container to NZ. If they were $80 USD a set freight it would translate to 20-25% savings over best NZ price (magnifying effects of GST would be less on a $80 USD vs $380 USD freight charge) with more range and fitments available. Not sure it would be hard. Two cut offs a year - mid year or end of year, get some for the family 4x4 while your at it - everyone use same address then pay only for cubic container space. Not like you can break them? RSG could organise an annual "tyre run" for members so we could try out some exotic track rubber. With 65 members I'm sure we'd get some interest. Maybe worth someone organising. Best not look at me I just spent 10k on three sets Michelins last 6 months cough cough!!

The 993 has been insured with Classic Car Cover for the past 6 or 7 years. It was initially insured for $50k by my mate and when I got the car I simply took over from there. Previously I've had everything insured with State, cars, house etc. Recently I decided to increase the value and due the to fact it was insured for $50k they wanted a valuation given the increase.
I rang State and got some pricing and was surprised at how much it has gone up since I'd had all my other 911's (some worth considerably more) insured with them.
Previously insured with Classic Cover for $50k full cover the premium was $545.88 per year with a $500 excess. Remembering I live in whats considered a low risk area of NZ.
So I rang State Insurance and for $80k cover they are $936.12 per year with a $1200 excess later negotiated down to $800. I thought that was a big jump so thought I'd try Classic Cover again and see if I could insure at $80k with them given it wasn't a renewal but now a "new policy" and Classic Cover were $1215.24 per year with a $800 excess. They said that my premium of $545.88 was an old rate and that all their rates had been increased and if was to insure again for $50k it would be $810.23 and a $500 excess. So I think I'll be staying with State until I have a chance to review other options.

My SC is with AMI at an older valuation of $36k, and $220 per year. I asked if that was a mistake and they said no that's correct.
The T is at build cost for the moment pending new valuations and it is ~$900 ish with Prestigo including track cover.

When I was doing the Targa with Macca I looked at Prestigio and they were much more expensive than what I was paying. However given the "track cover" I was prepared to move to Prestigio. In the end I didn't though because to qualify for track cover I needed to do driver training with an "approved instructor". Fine I said.... oh wait there's none south of the Bombays! So it meant I'd have to get to Auckland once a year and do driver training to "qualify" myself for insurance. It just became too hard and too expensive when you added up all the costs. Shame really. In 15 years and numerous track days I've never had an off but I know it could happen any time and not even be something I do so I'll have another look at Prestigio given the costs are closer now. It would help if I could do a day with instructors at Manfield but they are not approved

Dave have you had any formal track tuition recently? You might find you don't meet Prestigio requirements at the moment. They are getting tough. They have changed staff and process. Today they issued me a formal cover note for SITT stating all terms. Not something they have done before. Valuations need to be done annually though they let me skip a year this year. The 993 is insured for 150k and costs 1489. Basically 1%. You can guess the rest for a 300k gt3....
Looks like we are all holding some spares!
Hey Walt, thanks for the offer. I've bitten the bullet now. Hopefully it's not a problem I need to contemplate again for a year or two now. However, I'll be surprised if the situation has improved by then so will need to start shopping 3 months out!
Ponto. The PS2 was my favourite road tyre before they launched the PSS. If you like the PS2 then you'll love the PSS. But probably best not to try them as I suspect you'll run into similar problems. If you can get the RS3 in the new 2014+ compound in your size then great. From what I was told supply doesn't look good currently for RS3 and I suspect they had only the prior 2014 stock in inventory. Be interesting to know how you get on. 17" fitment might be different...

On a seperate topic, anyone used the engine bay trim kit that Petrolicious stock that secures the foam to upper fire wall?

It is with bundles of giddy excitement that I see this morning that the '73T hot rod at $175k in CHCH has been withdrawn by the seller. This means they sold it or realised that they were completely in another galaxy and gave up. Any Intel from anyone on this?

Had chance to have a ring around today, can source from NZ stock MPS2 N3's in the correct fitment, 205/50/17 front 255/40/17 rears, $2200 fitted. RS3's don't really work for sizing and stock was poor anyway, which i think only leaves the Hankook Ventus Evo which are sized correctly, just waiting for a cost which I'll update Monday, I'm guessing a saving of maybe 700 - 800 cheaper that the MPS2 N3, any one had experience with these? I suspect I'll grit my teeth and go with the MPS2 again. I'll be keen on a group tyre buy if it works out. Re tyres, I decided not to go extreme with roadies on my C4, so went with the same size roadies as my track tyres and stuck to Hankook. The roadies are Ventus Evo 2 and they are fine within the expectations for a tyre that costs $1,000 for four fitted. It maybe the 4wd, but even on wet roads I could keep enough pace on the way to Taupo to keep Paul happy in the following 993.
Re engine bay trim. I fitted a new blanket ex Pelican. I also fitted a Dave Etter pad keeper to hold the rearmost edge nicely. The end effect was very tidy. I got the pad keeper from Porscaholic ( Nelson). They were advertising on Trademe.
