So my '08 6MT Coupe is only 1 in 668 sold in the USA and we think the split is 40% MT and 60% Tip?

Default Mezger engine

I am new to the 997 forum and would like to know why the Mezger engine is the preferred motor for the turbo in years 2007-2009

The mezger engine is 911 heritage and has been used on 911 turbos for generations. It is the block used in the most successful ever le man gt cars where they won many titles (the set in the gt cars is totally different but the base block is the same DNA). After 2009, in the gen 2 turbos they switched to a dfi engine which is more powerful stock but in essence is an engine that has been squeezed to at or near its limit. The Mezger stock engines are far from their capabilities and hence are popular with 1) these who want to modify, 2) these that want the last of a long line of mezger 911 turbos and 3) these that want a reliable car that should last beyond 10 years which is what the 997 turbos are coming up to now. - before that all the classic 911 turbos have been running well for decades!

How the Dfi engines now used will last in 10 plus years only time will tell, but with the simultaneous release of the incredible Pdk gearbox, the dfi engines give great acceleration times. A shame we never got to see pdk in a mezger engine! Although I still would have stuck with manual, curious to know nevertheless!

Interestingly I heard that possibly the gt3 will switch back to a merger engine in which case we will see how fast a mezger engine is with a pdk box, albeit without the whoosh from the turbos! :-)

991 GT3 have DFI engine, I read on C&D article something about the new GT3RS run into some problem extracting more power from the current GT3 engine hence the all NEW ENGINE develop for the GT3RS and eventually trickle down to new line of 911. Now with that info, I started to like my 997.1TT even more, IMO the Mezger engine will go down as the greatest engine Porsche ever produced. Extreme powers and reliable and very expensive to replace

The .2 isn't at it's limit by any standard. Their are plenty of 1000+ hp 997.2 turbos running around. Plus while the mezger is great it was also a ticking time bomb with that coolant issue. Sure once it was welded or pinned no problem but if we get into engine mods, any engine will be reliable.

997.2 are immune to the coolant fitting problem? Did they switch glue or are they welded?
