Brute Force Production Number Calculations, 2009 Cab >/= 608
Taking a break from on-line holiday shopping and work, I visited AutoTrader.com last night. Reviewing the sixteen 2009 997TT Cabs for sale, I saw a range of VINs from WP0CD299_9S773177 to WP0CD299_9S773785 suggesting that at least 608 cars were produced (785 - 177 = 608). The underscore represents the placement of the "checksum digit", a variable value. All other constant VIN values are indicated above in blue.
As for the range found, my 2009 MY was produced in Sept 2008 and comes just after 177. The 785 car was delivered to a dealer in Jul 2009, which likely is near the end of the 997.1 Cab run.
Enough fun with numbers for now!

Update
In statistics n = 30 is considered a representative sample size for a population, so with a few more data points we're now up to 27 for the US model 2009 997tt cab. With that said the number of cars produced is now 706 cabs (785-079), with 26% (7 of 27) listed with 6-speed manual transmissions. Looking at CarFax reports, some of these cars apparently sat for upwards of 9 months on the showroom floor during the great recession (i.e., in dealer inventory Jan 2009, titled with first owner Oct 2009). Sample size is smaller but 23% of the 2009s were sold in 2008 (5 of 22).

Updated Information:
2009 Cabs with a sample size of now 31 cars
Number built with US VIN >/= 706 (no change)
Percent MT/Tip = 32%/68%
Percent Titled in 2008 = 23% (n=26)
2009 Coupes with a sample size of 16 (still need more data)
Number built with US VIN >/= 575
Percent MT/Tip = 44%/56%
Percent Titled in 2008 = 25% (n=8)
Using the cars for sale on eBay and AutoTrader, what does it all mean? Looks like more cabs than coupes were sold in 2009, which aligns with Porsche's official US sales figures. As was discussed previously, the sales figures for any given year could also include the next model year, which complicates the interpretation. With that said, it looks like about 1 in 4 (23% to 25%) 2009 model year cars were purchased in 2008. Finally, a cab buyer was less inclined to purchase a 997TT with a manual transmission (32%) than a coupe driver (44%).

FWIW, I've got 6MT Coupe #211 first sold Nov 2008.
Where is the build date marked on these cars? Or do you need a COA to find that?

Below is a picture of a VIN plate shown on AutoTrader. The production date is found on the upper right hand corner, in this case January 2009.

Nothing except 09's tend to have PCCB's more often and it was the first year for CL's. I suspect both options will be valued as the cars get older. Otherwise I think the cars are the same?

True PCM 3.0 will not matter, PCCB's may count but IMO it will be the Mezger 3.6 non-DFI engine that is/will become the most desirable.
