The front actually has far more in common with the awful Cayman GTS fascia than the great 991 GTS sport design fascia. Just looks like someone slapped on some protruding plastic. All the body and exhaust revisions just look like change for change sake, rather than an improvement in the beauty of the design.

So what happens if most of us like the new 991.2? Do we have to start this thread all over again?
My guess is that the 991.2 will grow on people after the official unveiling at the Frankfurt Motor Show. Let's remember that we have yet to see real undisguised pics (all pics still had some camo, pre-production plastic parts or that silly camera in the front) of shiny show cars in all their glory and the usual overly polished Porsche marketing videos.
All I have to say is that almost all of the overwhelming negative responses here are from brand new 991.1 owners with less than a year of forum history. Just seems like a bit of insecurity is in play here

So you think Rennlist join date means when someone's Porsche ownership started?
I've owned Porsches before and specifically didn't buy a 996 or 997 because I didn't care for the designs. The 991 was, IMO, a beautiful redesign (as was the 981 vs the 987 on the Cayman side). Back to a more pure, clean flowing design. The .2 revisions just seem to make it busier, with no cohesive flow to the changes. But I'm sure it will sell, in fact, given the sales success of a number of really 'busy' sporty car models lately, I'm guessing the reason for these changes is because Porsche feels the market wants a more aggressive/unique look and they think this will reinvigorate sales.
There is no doubt these cars will sell well. But then, so did the Bangled BMWs. They were perhaps the ugliest BMWs ever made, yet they sold in droves.
Funny, when I was looking for a Cayman S, I had two different dealers try to put me in a Cayman GTS. I was resistant and both salesman correctly guessed why. The awful slap on bodywork up front and overall lack of cohesion of all the GTS styling cues. Evidently, they'd heard that before.
Even a great color/wheel combo can't make that car look good. It looks like someone slapped a garbage body kit on a 991.1. Really looks cheesy, especially the new front fascia. And the vertical grill makes it look like the car's squatting down to take a ****.
If someone had offered a body kit like this for the 991.1 for $50, I'll bet they wouldn't have sold a single one.

I honestly wasn't even thinking about you when I wrote that, was really more toward the last few posters on this page...
Again, I don't see the need to present all these repetitive writeups on each's personal aesthetic tastes. At least the turbo vs. NA argument had some technical substance to it.

I have been on Rennlist 14 yrs as well has have owned each generation of Porsche 911s over 30 yrs .
If I dont like something " new " on a new 911 , it usually sticks , even after decades.
G Series 911 : goose neck CHMSL on Cabs ; baseball helmet shaped Cab top when raised .
964.: chunky , saggy , plasticky front and rear fascia
993 : ugly Targa side window silhouette ; basket handle CHMSL
996 : overly blandly sanitized front styling typical of the safe , conservative '90s " ovoid " convex surfaces automobile styling trend worldwide that was soon " 180 degreed " into very sharp creases and concavities by the disruption of " flame surfacing " ...which still dominates car styling worldwide today .
997 : saggy-eyelids 997.2 tail lights worsened with " barbell " C4S light bar
991.1: Nothing to complain about externally . I love the width enhancing " cantilevered " front DRLs . They are my second favorite exterior design feature after the beautifully integrated rear light bar as on my C4S . Also, the Cab finally gets a sleek coupe -like side silhouette.
991.2 : I dislike the new DRLs being brought back inward and especially being " closed out below " laterally with an ugly vertical strip of dull black ABS plastic meeting the side body sheet metal . Additionally , regarding the busy " vertical bars " black engine cover .......designed with consultant Weber BBQ Grills .........
I would love for the new 991.2 to be better looking that my 991.1. That way, if something were to happen to mine (wrecked/stolen), I could buy a new one. But there's zero chance I would buy one of these .2's, even if the new motors turn out to be awesome. Which bums me out, because typically when a car company goes down the path of either more zen or more busy, they don't switch back for a while. So my guess is the next gen beyond this is only going to be a further extension in this direction and it's likely going to be a long wait for another clean 911 design. Hopefully my cars will remain in good stead and I'll never have to buy a new one again.
And yes, I totally get that taste is all personal preference and that others may love the new look.

Only 911 generation that I truly disliked. The 964 is just an awful looking car IMO. It looked like what Chrysler would have done if they bought the rights to produce the 911 at the time.

With all these test mules running around CA and elsewhere, I'm surprised nobody has taken any newer unseen pics. I guess only an enthusiast would even notice.
I think the current multifunction wheel is also found throughout the model range? Prior to each model's respective facelift. I do really like the current sport design wheel and it was one of my non-negotiables when CPO searching.
