Default sunroof cable replacement, any good write ups?

I did the search and could not find any write up's. If your familiar with a specific thread, please post here.

Do i need to remove my roof liner too? Just replaced the transmission, working but biding up on the PS. I think it might need a cable to fix it.

thanks jpc

The write-up here seems to suggest that you can pull the cables with the headliner on.

It's at the start of Page 3

Thanks, indeed, and was there a special search path you used to find it? Or a special technique?

We lost a lot of great stuff when Dan died. If it's out there in the internet ether and available it'd be great. R.I.P.

BTW, here are some other sunroof threads I've archived:

I think the write-up you're seeking is here, post #29 et seq.

Was it this one that Hilton saved from Dan the Podguys website?

I honestly don't recall how I find it (I do quite a bit of searching through various means), but I can confirm through personal experience in the last 90 minutes that the cables can be removed without removing the headliner.

Now if only I can find a good way to get all the gunk off of them

Does the sunroof need to be open to replace either cable? I need to replace the PS side. The directions are well written. I'm guessing I need to look at the cables when the transmission is removed. The cable must attach to the track

I think people are confusing headliner with sunroof liner?

The sunroof liner has to be slid back to do almost anything, besides replacing the motor.

The actual headliner stays place.

I've removed the motor and transmission. I don't see how I can fix the issue without removing the headliner.

The sunroof is closed. Do I need it open for the repair?

Thanks

Yeah. You need to open it a bit, take the screws off the interior sunroof cover, remove the cover and everything should be accessible to you.

I did all the work in my post here last night, all while the headliner was still on.

It's not opening. I can get it open about 3 mm and then I've hit a wall.

Unscrew the screw at the bottom of the Sunroof Tranny and then manually twist the gear with the slotted screw inside.

Make sure you don't strip the inside of the screw.

I decided to manually pull the sunroof (from outside) and it opened. It was wedged on the PS due to the cable was broken. I've got a 5 inch opening now. Yeah. Now it's time to remove the interior cover. Thanks

I'm at same point - cables out and planning to clean them tomorrow, so any ideas on cleaning off old grease welcome
