Default Sunroof Removal

I have poured thru previous threads, though I do see an outline of the steps needed to remove the sunroof? I am looking to replace the beading front and back.

Thanks for any input...

Open it hlf way and with a long phillips head screwdriver remove the 3 screws that hold the sunroof liner. After that, you'll the rest of the mechanism and should be stright forward how to take the rest out.

just uncrew the the 3 front screws 2 turns, they are a bitch to get back into the holes , once this is done then gently pull the front edege of the liner down so the tabs come free then gently slide the civer forwards, Note there are felt feet at the rear edges of the liner.
The liner will slide forwards till these feet catch so you need to push up on the rear edges of the liner to get it free, if they peel off then super glue the felt tabs back on.

The liner is lifted out of the top of the roof opening.
Then close the sunroof, beware of the 3 metal springs attached to roof once the S roof is closed these will spring down so when you open the roof they have to pushed off to the sides and the center one held while the roof is opened.

Once you have the roof closed then there are 4 bolts on the front attach bar( 2 on either side) .
2 screws each on the rear transition blocks
Pay attention to how loose the front screws are and how many turns it takes to remove each one, they are not put in the same amount. write this number down for the front screws.
( this is to prevent you jamming the front bar against the tracks) when you put it back together.

On the rear blocks there are 8mm bolts remove these and scribe a line along the roof edge to the blocks, they should be parallel to the roof edges once these bolts are free the roof should come clear.
Use blue locktite on all of the bolts front and rear.
only use soapy water on the edge seal and dont pull it tight as it will shrink its better t to try to preload the edge seal a bit.
Do the the smaller portion first work on a flat area with a few towel under the roof so you dont scratch the paint

Note when you install the roof make sure to have the screws in the same places as close as possible.
If you can tape a piece of clear film ( like you might find on a magazine cover in the DR office) to the center of the sunroof this will prevent the outer panel from scratching the sliding portion till you get it aligned.

If the sliding panel is hitting then you can carefully pull the outer section up a bit to increase the clearance.
Use blue loctite on all of the bolts/screws dont overtighten the front bar screws this will jamb the track and cause the roof to slide slow or stop

Follow the WSM for exact instructions

Once the roof is attached leave the liner off and sit the car in the sun for a day or two, this will give the new seal time to reform to the roof it might not close all the way when its fresh.
Also make sure to clean the tracks with some WD40 then silicone the tracks for better roof operation.
Once the roof is closing well then you can install the liner.
Slide the liner in to the cavity with the outer portion open about 4 inches slide the front edge tabs to the screws pull down on the front edge and let the tabs slide up behind the washers

Not really, it's actually pretty simple.
