The search is on for the correct "Forged Alloy Wheels/Platinum" that were on the car per the window sticker.

I had originally put chromed wheels on the car, and rechromed the rare fuch-based center caps with the removable Porsche shields.

While these look very nice indeed, they are not "correct" when you look at it from an OEM/ as delivered standpoint.

A couple of options that are currently known (I am looking intently for others as well).

1) New "Platinum wheels" as are indicated by part number 928 362 115 01 (A set is about 3800)

2) Wheel Enhancement says they can do used wheels (concerned over condition - the chromes have no gouges, scrapes, etc) and have them reanodized to match the finish to the spec. (This costs 2400 according to John at wheelenhancement)

3) Find some very good condition wheels that are considered platinum anodized. (If someone reading this has 7s all around and they are in perfect condition - please let me know)

That begs the question - what does this look like? And am I on the correct path for this particular wheel and color?

Because many times, before and after 86.5, the wheel was called out on the options - this car (and its not mine anymore - its diechenb's - what remains is to finish some knick knacks (and this wheel swap), and ship the car) is also called out on the options.

So it is: "M347 - Forged Wheels Platinum Anodized, Rim 7 x16"

Call Mark, he can make it happen for wayyy less than $2400. The BATmobile deserves correct, freshly reanodized dishes.

I spoke to mark a bit. He said he has not had reason to go to AL reed recently, but I was going to do go up there and find the best wheels he had to do the work. The concern is from a correct color reproduction point of view.

Has anyone seen the actual pieces of the process? Strip, polish the front, Anodize.

My former euro came with platinum forged wheels. I still have them, buyer preferred the 16" phone dials. I would only rate them as fair-good though, based on memory. I might be able to recheck this weekend. Have a NO$/NIB fan clutch there too. Too bad about the geography!

I have seen the polishing process at Al's- everyone should stop by Al's at least once, it'll cure you of ever wanting polished Mag wheels. Dirty, hard work. He doesn't have his own anodizing facility, so it's getting done somewhere nearby. Al did my Clubsport wheels, they turned out beautifully, and the total (in 2006) was $520. Probably a bit more now, but can't be that much more.

This story is basically completed, from the car being in my possession.

Some updates were that I found some great wheels at Mark's with the help of our man Rob.

Swapped the new Bridgestones onto the platinum wheels after the car came back from a few weeks with Greg.
Even after 5 years of work, what was missing and was fixed:

A/C is working (new compressor - my other work was correct)
A Vac bulb was replaced in the dash
A coolant line was the wrong one is now right.
Many little hardware (bolt lengths, types, washer) were off from correct and are now "correct".
I screwed up the Loom routing under the engine and its correct now.
A bunch of hardware that I did not torque correctly is now torqued ( forget this often - bad habit)
Some missing heat shielding around the rack
Front Shift Ball cup
Headers bracket I never saw or have seen before for the driver's side.

So... That is it. For now. I may see the car again in August if scheduling works.

The next chapter is ready to begin!

BC delivered the car absolute 100% with no excuses, including the final sorting with Greg that he described. He even went above and beyond to source the best set of anodized wheels we could find. I hope he can make it to Monterey in August, and I am proud to be the next custodian of this special car.
