Soapy water, with dish lotion and some car was soap for suds. sponge with the rough pad on one side- scotchbright? then spray on the car oil eater cleaner. scrub. use paint brush to get in the nooks and crannies. wipe off with terry rag. then for tough grease and cosmoline I used straight mineral spirits on a paint brush and some small scrubbing brushes, which are just a bit bigger than a tooth brush and with stiffer bristles. took me about 2 hours. Car on lift with me sitting under it.

Mine was the same when I got the car. Looked like it been like that for many years.
I solved it by moving the acc pedal to the middle position on the floor (there is 3 positions on the floor). In the middle position the angle was right and the kickdown switch was engaged.

Picked it up from the painter, he cleaned up the vestiges of the rub strips and painted to match. The car looks amazing, and it turns out the color is 'Rosso Corsa' (Speed Red).

Attacked my squeaky dash / pod with felt tape (which I had used to good success several months back between the dash and windsheals and around the a pillar.) Motivation for this effort from Mark Woudsma who remarked on it within 30 seconds of riding with me last night. Turned out the major culprits were the junction of pod and dash at the lower right of the pod and between the dash and top of the center console. Took the car for a ride over the local rumble strip and I'd say 95% of the squeaks from that area are gone.

Post No 1 for me. I topped up the trans fluid today but it still is not happy shifting in the driveway. more investigation required. Next up is the heater hose so I can take it to my workshop and get it up on stands on level ground to I can check that fluid level properly. I believe these things are very particular about the trans fluid level.
I'm brand new to this car/these cars. I'm a Jeep guy and have never sat in something with my azz only inches from the deck.

I was fortunate to spend the weekend with Jim&Sue C. and Louie&Chris Ott at the San Juan Concours. The icing on the cake was a first place award for German cars.

Got up bright eyed and bushy tailed and replaced:
-installed new spark plugs
-installed new Behru wires
-installed new distributor
Took out the air cleaner assembly to get to plugs #4 and #8 at the back. Lots of debris, twigs, dirt underneath so vacuum hosed out everything after I plugged the metal intake hole to keep anything from falling down into the engine.
Trying to wire everything up to match the way it came off...spark plug wires wouldn't reach...
The previous mechanic had put the distributor cap on backwards which threw off the firing order. Didn't feel like taking the distributor off so ignored the markings and wired them as if the distributor was on right.
Stumble, stumble, and then fired up and purrs like a kitten.
Got it on the charger and will test drive locally in a bit...

Pried off my glued-on tail light lens so I could replace the brake light, and put on the one I got from a parted-out car. I had assumed the screw holes in the housing were stripped, but no....they seem fine. No idea why they glued the other one on...ran out of screws??
FWIW, it was a lot easier to get off once I no longer cared about breaking it...
Now I've noticed that I occasionally still get the stop light warning, which then goes out again if I hit the brake. Possibly a bulb mismatch? If it keeps up I'll put a new bulb in the other side and see...

True, it's supposed to do this once, on startup, but not periodically while you drive...
That's how it is designed to work. It shows you that the warning light works. When you push the brake and both lights work, then it is supposed to go out. If one or more bulbs are broken it will stay on. Or if one bulb is old, giving more resistance than the other.

Bolted back the exhaust to the down pipes, using new triangular metal gaskets and bolts/locknuts, reinstalled oxygen sensor and reconnected air pipe to cat. At the other end reinstalled the exhaust hangers which I'd de-rusted and painted satin silver (rustoleum) while they were off car. The down pipe connections are quite a workout for a guy on his own!
Exhaust was dropped to replace drive shaft boot - that went back in yesterday.
