Neptune Barcelona has passed the Central America countries and is now along the Mexico coast
Can we tell the captain to slow down? If the stop sale rumors are true (my S.A. thinks so), maybe best to keep the cars in the carrier than at the port freezing...

Won't freeze in San Diego, but I sure hope it isn't parked outside for 2 months...

A chip has to be replaced, can’t be done on a boat. Sooner we land, sooner work can be done.
Anyone has an idea as of how to access the chip replacement? It’s done in the interior? There will be thousands of cars that need the replacements. Kinda worried that they will just rush it and damage the car (interior / exterior) while doing it.

No one knows what chip needs to replaced, nor how long it will take or if the car needs to be recoded once the chip has been replaced. They keep that info pretty locked up. All we know is what was in that screen grab from their internal systems.

Its a chip on the ECU from Belarus which has an embargo in place as of December 3, 2023 which is why all new cars landing from Glovis Comet, Neptune Barcelona, etc all impacted while previous cars were not. The 718 and Cayenne does not the respective chip.
The replacement chip is ordered and enroute to the port. All impacted cars will have their ECU removed and new chip installed. This is a massive undertaking and dealers have been notified to try and stock up on inventory via trade and pre owned certification.

Interesting, so that implies that the chip is removable/replacable within the ECU... They don't have to replace the entire ECU as a single unit and then re-code everything.

Thanks for keeping us in the loop! Very useful info!
No cover in Benicia for sure. Are non GT cars covered like GTs (ie like a full pajama)? I guess they just come with the white film?
Actually, it is a large property much of it outdoors, but there is a 3 building, one pretty sizable on the property. Maybe some vehicle storage... but possible the larger one for work being done on the vehicle before delivery to the dealers (ie, repair work, recall retrofits, compliance retrofits, etc...)
All of the Carrera T unboxing videos on YouTube/TikTok show only extremely minimal shipping cladding on the hood, and a little on the wide quarter panels. So far, only the GT cars come with the full on white car cover with the zippers based on the YouTube/TikTok videos..

That is correct, both Benicia and SD have some indoor facilities where they usually store the higher valued VW group vehicles like the 911s, etc. Someone posted on here a while ago that this is typically the case for all the 911s at port.
It’ll be interesting to track the progress and see if we are all going to be fixed at the same time or not. At least we know we’re all on Neptune Barcelona. In the next 1-2 weeks our cars will be at port so the waiting game will begin.

How certain are you that it is a chip in the ECU, I'm thinking that with the Taycan also affected with the import hold, it could be either the range-finder system or the infotainment touch screen - there is a Belarus company that makes lasers and range finders and another making touch screens for automotive applications listed in the Belarus document from the Trade Embargo press release in December. "Electronic component that is part of a larger control unit" referenced in the Porsche communications seems to cover several potential bases.
