Location (Region): Midwestern
Body Style: Coupe
Transmission Type: Manual - 6 speed
2 or 4 Wheel Drive?: 2 Wheel Drive
Engine Type: Fuel Injection
Stereo System: AM-FM CD

Selling my 1993 968 coupe with 166k miles. Car is a 6 speed manual, runs and drives well. Previous owner installed an alcantara Porsche steering wheel and later model Porsche radio with bluetooth. Includes OEM timing belt and water pump parts along with an uncracked replacement dash. Recently changed oil and filter with Mobil 1 full synthetic and Mahle OEM spec filter. Have a big stack of receipts and original manual/key.

Issues:

-No major body damage but has some small dings and dents. Dash has light cracking and some wear on the front leather seats. Headliner is sagging on the passenger side.

-Sunroof rear electronic latch doesn't operate properly so there is some highway wind noise and can leak a bit in heavy rain. I mostly drove the car with the roof out on sunny days.

-Aftermarket amp sound sometimes cuts out. Think this is a simple wiring issue but never got around to looking at it.

-Has an exhaust heat shield rattle that comes and goes at low RPM.

Just had a child and don't really have time to tinker with this car so decided to upgrade to a newer model and need to free up garage space. Would be a nice driver or basic project for someone. Asking $9000 which is what I paid for it, but will entertain any reasonable offer.

Car is located in Winnetka, IL. Garage kept all winter. I will be taking it out for photos shortly. For now here are some photos from the previous owner:

I'll take the steering wheel and give you an OEM 996 black leather wheel!

;-)

Best of luck! I owned this car previously and put about $4,000 in it while I owned it for a little more than a year. Andrew bought it from me.

Really, I will swap that steering wheel out for you for $250 and give you a pristine leather one.

Paul,

I know you loved that wheel. If you want to come up over the weekend and swap it out for a regular 996 one, you can have it for free. Just drop me an email.

Yes they are.

Here's a current pic, sorry for the crappy cell phone shot. Will take some better, more detailed ones over the weekend:

Battery doesn't hold a good charge since being stored over the winter so going to swap it out for a brand new one.

Price drop to $8500.

It's the camera lense. Everything past a certain point is blurry.

It looks a little bit off from certain angles/lighting in person, but not as dramatic as the phone picture. I shot it through a window so there's some haze/glare.

I've never had any paint work done on the car personally, and AFAIK Paul didn't either, but it's 20+ years old with 150k+ miles and a handful of previous owners so I can't say for sure. It's a good "10 foot" car, definitely not a flawless concours example, but not a total basket case either.

$7500. Going on Craigslist later today. Come check it out and make me a reasonable offer. I can't keep 4 cars and this one deserves a good home.

Now has a brand new battery and 996 leather steering wheel since I gave Paul his Alcantara one back.

More details on work done by the previous owner. I have a massive 3-ring binder full of receipts and records:

I purchased it about 15 months ago and have put about $3,500 into it to get it really, really nice. Upgrades include: suspension bushings, steering rack bushings, alignment, new AC compressor, new plugs, new instrument cluster plastic surround, new steering wheel and airbag, Porsche traffic pro radio, which has Bluetooth, iPod interface, aux input, NAVIGATION and CD player. Focal speakers and new amp/signal processors in the trunk.

Refinished Porsche Cup II wheels, tires are in great shape. New brake fluid. The car has a new windshield, new windshield gasket, new rear hatch gasket, new gaskets for the rocker panels and door handles. The clock is new old stock. The previous owners did quite a bit of few things to it also, such as the seats, recent brakes, front struts, etc. I have records of a lot of things.

Good luck Andrew!

And anybody who wants to see the pictures of when I sold him the car in October 2015, I have a zip file hosted here:

http://audipages.com/968/sale/

I'm not suggesting it looks exactly the same today, but with a little detailing, I don't doubt that it wouldn't look like that after a weekend. I did drive it last week, I LOVE the 3.0 motor, a lot of torque as compared to my 944 T before the boost comes on. I have to say that my old 968 was one of the best handling cars I ever drove, so precise around fast corners, even more so than my 911 (maybe it's just my head, but I remember it being so nice).

Here is the steering wheel that I put in the car, it was new old stock that has been in use for about a year, the steering wheel is leather from a 996 turbo that never got installed in a guy's car, installed it in my turbo about 2 years ago and drove it 100 miles since then.

This is a picture of it installed in MY 944 turbo, it is now in Andrew's 968:

Any idea how many owners the car has had asides form the two in this post? Also, when was it's last timing belt job? I know the parts are included, but am curious as to how soon it is due. I recognize that shop sticker in the engine bay! It's a well known shop near where I live in the Bay Area.

I hope you don't mind me responding Andrew.....I am subscribed to this thread.

As I remember, the first gentlemen who owned the car had it for a very long time, until about 7 years ago. The story I got was that he was a doctor and drove the car from LA to San Fran a bunch, or something like that. I'm going to say the sticker in the engine bay is from the original owner doing maintenance.

Then somebody who lived in CA bought it, and then moved it to FL, I believe he owned it for about 3 years. He sold it on ebay to the owner who had it before I bought it. When I bought (and sold) the car, there is a copy of the ebay ad from that owner. Andrew has that in the documentation.

The guy I bought the car from, Bob, lives in Kentucky outside of Louisville. He is an older gentlemen (well, older than me, which isn't saying much) and had a red/tan 968 earlier in life. He was an aircraft mechanic or inspector. He bought the car and had it about 1.5 years? maybe a little more, or a little less. He had a bicycle accident and hurt his knee and it was difficult for him to drive it any longer. He now owns a red 968 automatic.

He sold it to me and I had it for a little more than a year, about 17 months or so.

A few months before I bought it, Bob had it inspected at a local Porsche indy, they pulled the timing belt cover off and inspected everything, gave it a clean bill of health. That receipt should be with the documentation, but can't recall exactly what it said, but Bob told me that verbally.

I bought all OEM parts to do the timing belt service, but never did it. These are the parts that I bought:

<img src=http://audipages.com/968/TB_service_17.JPG>

I also put euro front corner markers on the car, changed the steering rack bushings, put new control arm rear adjustment bushings on, had it aligned, etc. I did tons of work on the car, and from what I could tell, lots of other people before me did the same.

Here's my original post when I bought the car. If you go to my oldest posts, you will find nothing but 968 posts.
