(I know from many of your posts that you're careful to avoid "irreversible" changes). Thanks!

I'm not the OEM so I can't say for sure, but having spoken to a few dealers, bolt-on mods like this don't void warranty. I was just told to let them know what's been done to the car when I bring it in so if any readings are off then they know why (air flow etc)... Dealers install aftermarket parts they sell themselves all the time, exhaust etc are pretty standard modifications.

No offense, but unless these parts are stamped compliant, they are absolutely not legal in California and any dealer installing them is violating the law. Will you get caught? Unlikely, but they're still not legal and I don't know any Porsche dealership that sells or installs them. Huge risk, as a number of dealers were made examples of a few years back and had to pay big fines. I know for motos, most mfgs won't even ship their non compliant exhaust components to a California address.

You're probably right, but I was referring to the warranty question I was asked, not legality

I want all the pieces while they are available even if they are illegal in my favorite state of California. I figure if I'm alive in 20 years when my car doesn't have to be smogged then I can trick it out. I just hope I can make it to 68 lol.

What I like about these mods is that they look completely organic to the car. They don't even look like mods to the untrained eye.

Alex's exhaust is another story... it looks bespoke.

Yup, I was just referring to the dealer install part. I don't think any dealers in California are installing non-DOT exhaust components at this point due to the risk of fines.

Given the way the Smog guy crawled all over my car when I brought my new C2S in from out of State, trying to fail me for suspected exhaust mods, that's my biggest fear when it comes to modding the exhausts of my cars. Some smog tester black flagging the car in the system.

I feel exactly the opposite, and think they unbalance the car without the GT4 wing, but that's what's great about mods. If we all liked the same thing, our cars would all look identical and that would be boring.

Honesty is great and so is aesthetic conviction. I've been in the contemporary art world for sometime now and everyone is in fact entitled to an opinion and such is the spice of life and I like the variety of approaches people bring to the table: human foibles and all. For the most part I find that taste is simply habit. I find with exposure my taste can change.... Guards Red went to my least favorite color to my one of my favorites just via seeing pictures on this site.

Anyway, You might be right. I've not seen these changes in person but in the photos they look 'organic' to me of course I'm just talking looks. I have no idea about the real world effects of messing with the aero "balance" and I wouldn't mess with it myself without serious consideration.

I was talking about 'style' balance, not aero balance. I doubt the GT4 lip does anything to the aero on the car.

Aesthetically, I think the GT4 front and side add ons look odd without the rear wing on this car. The balance just looks off a bit to me. But I get why people like it and I don't think they look bad, just not my cup of tea. Honestly, if I had my druthers, I'd slightly tone down/reshape the front bumper of the Spyder. I think it's a little over the top for the rest of the car. One of the reasons I wanted a black car is because I think it softens the sharp lines up front a bit. And because black is always awesome...

Looks just about identical to this: http://suncoastparts.com/product/981WINDSCREEN.html

I have it and it fits the Spyder just fine.

Be warned, at 45 or so, with the windows down, it does make the cabin a bit gustier, especially when there is a side wind. At 70 with the windows up, my hair barely gets tossed, so it's nice, but if you like driving with the windows down, the mesh works better imho.

Dunno if this one is like the Suncoast one, but mine started to squeak after a few weeks, so I put just a little bit of grease on it and reinstalled it, and it was fine since. I leave mine in all the time though, if you were putting it in the bag or in a storage location, it would be a messy solution.

I have been trolling eBay looking for a cheap mesh one to swap out.
