Let's pause for a moment, set aside our differences and appreciate Porsche engineering. I noticed a couple days ago the leather on the dashboard of my 599 HGTE was pulled away from the window, shrinking and popped over a sensor. So I decided to remove it myself and take to a local leather shop to get repaired. This picture is after 12.5 hours of craziness in my garage.

Just got the dash out a couple hours ago, off to the leather shop now to drop off, it will be finished in about 2.5 weeks, needs a new piece of leather. Hopefully I won't have any screws left after it goes back together
Not according to AP. Different heads, different oiling, different pumps/pressures, different rods, different crank, different cam profile, different valve springs, different rpm limits. Probably some tech sheet on it.
Heads, cams, springs, finger followers where updatet in production in early 2015. The oil pressure was changed from this date and also applied to the cars produced before (software update). A new oil pump came with modell year 2016 (G). Thos parts are all applied to the MA175 and MA176 engine.

Not likely for many reasons. Catalog is off.
Try it out. Order a cam from the catalogue without more follow up with tech for a 4.0 and run it in your 3.8 and let us know how that works out.
Catalogue is clearly off in details.
AP did not lie. He is correct when comparing the initial version of the MA175 engine to the "new" MA176 in GT3RS. What he didn't say is, that alle the changes were also applied to the MA175 step by step.
Did you see the cataloque? This isn't a marketing brochure. They list all parts & revisions including order number and so one. Even explosion drawings.

I'm assuming a lot more changed in this rev in order to go from a high pressure oil system to a low pressure oil system. Even the crank oiling process has changed to support a lower pressure system. It seem like this was a bigger set of changes that the tiny iterations that have been made to the prior gen motor. I'm sure once people get inside the new motors - or maybe a builder can comment, we'll know for certain beyond looking at P/Ns that really don't tell us anything other than there was a reason to increment the P/N.
It seems from my investigation the cams did progress to the RS cams and springs which they are apparently using on the last 3.8 motors and rebuilds/replacements. Changed profiles and different springs. Seems like the biggest most important changes were the oil pressure changes, different heads and oiling and drop in revs iwth the 4.0. Likley key.
