You should immediately switch out your avatar. The appearance mods that you made in the car you have for sale are actually minimal (from all of the comments I kept thinking lots of goofy mods, and the white car in your avatar supported that misconception), and things like the wheels enhance the value for many of us over the flat dish wheels.

It is the never the market, but the marketer. A good salesman will sell an ice cube to an Eskimo. Again, whollistically market the car - be consistant with how you put it out there (for instance eliminate confusion as to what you are selling - see comment above re your avatar). That Venetian Blue car is beautiful - one of the best colors on a 928. Take proper photos, do a proper write up.
The problem with bad marketing is that you only (typically) get one chance to make a first impression. If it starts out bad, then sits, folks naturally assume there is some kind of flaw. I would recommend pulling down all of the bad/incomplete/ less than stellar for sale ads (in CL or elsewhere), and not put it back up until late March/early April, with good pictures, a full write up, etc. Take a mulligan and start again later.

Again, that is a beautiful car, with lots of the deferred stuff done. It is a $15/$16K + car all day long if done right.
OK, good advice here. I changed my avatar from my silly "*****" one to a picture of my own car from a road trip. I was always resisting using a pic of my car as my avatar because it's kind of boring, what everybody does, but OK I will play along and do the same.

At the moment the unsuccessful Craigslist ads expired, and that's all I had. I will go forward and do some better photos, with a view toward maybe an ebay auction in the future.

I didn't really think about the quality of "marketing" for a vehicle of this kind, it seemed to me that a person either wants one or they don't, and if they do then they will go out of their way to see one regardless of advertising. When I was buying mine, I had to put the word out that I wanted to buy one, and then mine came up out of the woodwork. I actually bought a car that was not advertised and was not officially for sale. It just so happened that Dr. Bob knew the owner, and that he might be willing to sell. So I went to see it and bought it. There was no other 928 in similar condition for sale in California at that time.

I agree with the comments above about "marketing" your car. For some ideas here is what IMO was the best photo spread for a 928 thus far on BaT.

And this one was the best presentation I have seen on BaT. I especially love the moving shot.

I'm still saying that the "market" is bad, because there seems to be no active hunters of 928s around here or nearby, willing to come and check it out. I mean, if you were actively seeking an S4, wouldn't you want to come over to see my car? Another poster here was hunting an OB, and he wrote about how depressing it was sifting through all the junkers on Craigslist. Well, mine sat on Craigslist for about 3 months, no one was interested. And I don't think mine was a very depressing car to see there.

Safulop, try not to get too depressed about this topic. And, I like the color of your car. I too thought you had a white S4.

I think Hacker's comment above is right on. There aren't just hundreds of people looking for 928s like yours. You have to wait to find the right one for your car. Otherwise, it's like selling in distress.

Marketing is important. A dirty car could mean somebody who doesnt care and bad maintenance; too much Armour-All often seems to be somebody trying to oversell their car. Whatever. You have to market what makes your car special, so that that one person notices it!

I don't really agree with your comment about the reasons to buy a 928. From my perspective, there are just more and more reasons to keep my 928s. :-) But that's me, and I am not really power hungry.

Not sure what you mean there... the pics in my album are of a clean car, the only thing missing is the new floormats. I don't think I can get it any cleaner, and I have polished the paint.

I was referring to your new avatar...looks like splash behind the front wheel and don't know what's going on with the markings on that FBC ? T

Oh it's supposed to be a "real life" shot where the car is all covered in road spray and bugs. Like you know, I *drive* this car. I didn't know the avatar was also a for sale ad.

Haha, I note your frustration!! To my way of thinking, ANY photo of your car on a "public" site is an ADVERTISEMENT, it's just a mindset, you have a beautiful car, we know that, and we are aware it is a driver for you, however that one person who may want to buy it, wants the warm fuzzies, thinking this car has never seen a puddle!!!

Dumb? Yeaup, but that's the way you get the top dollar for your rig, that's how it works up there and that's just how it works downunder.

What did you see first when you met her...(ok don't answer that)

It's all good mate.

Wow, OK then, I still don't understand people after all these years. When I was hunting a 928, I drove from Fresno to LA to see this car based solely on a description. I had never seen a single picture.

So, the PO sold his car to me, for top dollar, without ever advertising or taking a single photo. Now granted, his car was pretty clean when I saw it up close.

Another change in my avatar then, to a glamour shot.

My 1988 S4 is modded as yours if not more. I paid a hell of a lot more than than $16K. When I bought it, those were the items that checked all the boxes.
