I have an '88 944 NA that someone put the rotors and calipers from a '94 968 (non M030 option).
That, is the 944/2 approved solution...albeit a $750 solution.
If you go back to post #1, the purpose of this thread is to find a less-expensive alternative as Michael opened with, "Been thinking about upgrading my brakes but don't want to spend $850+ on everything".
Similarly, the approved solution for a 944/1, not restricted by competition rules, is to affix the hubs, spindles, rotors, calipers, uprights, and control arms from an '86 951.
I'm still away for work, but the calipers will arrive sometime this afternoon...gotta love RockAuto shipping.
Time to look at pads. SloMo, what are your opinions of the EBC Redstuff pads? I've read mixed reviews about them in general over the years. They seem to have a reputation for being noisy, but are excellent street pads.
That bumps the total to somewhere around $220, although standard Volvo pads are dirt cheap if one didn't want to cough up for these. I have a set of NEW in box Mintex front pads for an NA if anyone wants them for cheap
I'm fairly pleased with the Redstuff pads for street use. I haven't had the car on a track yet, so I can't speak to their performance there, but for spirited street driving on tight, twisty roads with frequent hard braking, I found the Redstuff pads to have good, predictable braking with no detectable fade.
I haven't experienced any noise with them, either. They are also fairly low-dust for a performance brake pad, too, which is nice.
One more thing about the Volvo brakes I forgot to mention - they are a little lighter than the NA calipers. A loaded Volvo 240 caliper weighed 10lb 1oz on my scale and a loaded NA caliper was 12lb even.
I painted the calipers red (call me a ricer or whatever but they look great) and just ordered the EBC pads. I'm taking notes and pictures, and will follow up with a writeup thread when all is said and done.

That would have been sweet, I'm just shooting for bang-for-the-buck with this. From behind some 16" Fuchs, they'll catch the eye without distracting.
Now... if you're offering to do some powder coating, I have basically an entire engine's worth of parts here...

The pound is far better now against the Dollar with the Brexit faffing things about, but we'll recover soon and regain our worldwide status !
It only cost me (in 2014) $75 to send a 944 Cylinder head to Lindsey Racing taking only 2 days ! but the return cost would of been over $350 to send it back to the UK! on it's own.... so I had it returned in the engine crate which was stuck in Tacoma docks (Due to a Strike) for nearly 4 months before the month it took for the ship journey to arrive in the UK!
The caliper finish was rough, that may have been from the original casting or from corrosion over 15 years prior to cleanup. I got them with an oily sheen on them, so I cleaned them with Brakleen and hit them with off the shelf caliper paint. I could really give a **** less if they aren't perfect, the NA is a street machine.

Yeah that's what I meant the caliper surface condition was rough, as I can see it as you've slapped the paint on top!
Some preparation, a primer and some flatting down even just on the front face, then a good 2 pack paint would of looked 100% better and lasted years, rather than do a quick job and then claim your not arsed and you'll only see a glimmer of them behind the wheels would of been better doing them Black?
You're not alone this, is a very common scenario ...many car enthusiasts spend big amounts of cash on some items (exhausts, Chips, Turbo's, bushes, Stereo etc..) but spend less attention on other components...
I've only washed my car twice so far in 2000 miles and I don't or never will have the desire or patience to faff with waxes and claybars etc...but for me looking at poorly finished calipers inside wheels is a let down..
