So back on topic, does anyone else think it is a good thing long term valuation wise if they put a new engine in? Or will there be a black cloud over the car with a new replaced engine?

Very good question.
How would a consumer know? Does a commercial buyer check? When you trade a car in to a dealer for another car, do they check? I really dunno. Any experience with this?
Back in the early 2000s when these engines were blowing, the consensus of the forums was yes it does drop value but that was 'net buzz.
In the 930 forum it's considered a golden car if you can say "Matching Numbers" in the title of your car.
That is the Body/Engine/Chassis all have the same SN's when it left the factory.
I really don't think its going to hurt the long term value of a 997 for having a Tran/Engine replaced because of the sheer number produced.
When I bought my 2010 C2 I saw the PDK was replaced at 32k and it didn't deter me one bit. It's one of those good things bad things, bad it happened but good they took care of it
It will have a big impact on resale on say a 80's 930 or a 70's 911 RS where the production numbers were way
lower and have become marque cars.
I seem to recall reading where engines were replaced due to IMS failures the replacement engine has a different/deviated serial number and there is a nomenclature for the serial that specifies it is a replacement engine. I would imagine this process has not changed.
It will be a used car, not a museum collector piece, correct? It's a seven year old car now. If I were considering buying it, I'd see a brand new motor as a plus where they probably learned a few things over the last seven years and the new motor is better for it.
[QUOTE=GTS Sully;13548463]Okay, so what am I missing, if anything? Pic of my running GTS that just hit exactly 3001 miles since purchased last December. Oil level shows full.
You need to return your car for one that uses 1.6 qts of oil in 622 miles
My 2012 GTS also shows the same full level after driving approx 2500 miles since purchase. My has a lot of stop and go in town driving as well as high rev spirited driving on back roads.
Holy crap thats a lot of oil! I'm at 1k mi on my 997.2 and the level shows almost right at full.
My old Air Cooled 930 that loves to bleed oil never approached that much consumption.

There is a forum paranoia about oil levels. Thriving to keep the oil level gauge at max is fraught with problems in a flat engine. Good practice when changing oil is to keep the oil level one step below max and never add oil above that.

Picked mine up CPO'd from Brumos in Jax, FL and haven't added a drop since delivery. Nor has it apparently burned a drop.
