Dr. Dale Brown and Dr. Goldstein. Both work at PMH and TGH in the Head and Neck Clinic. It's a 10 hour operation and both said I'll be back fishing etc. in June. I will now have the energy to get out to the GTG more likely in April May time frame depending on the treatments required. They don't think I need radiation. Dr. Al Madini is doing the Dental reconstruction work and he seems like a real nice guy. I don't have insurance and the docs looked at me and said it was covered by OHIP ... except physio outside the hospital. They will get me going inside the hospital before I leave. I may have to change my handle to "scar face" afterwards as they are cutting up the lip, around the nose and up to the forehead area. They said it won't be noticed which I really don't care about as it will be my Badge that says "I fought Cancer and I won!".
Thanks guys for the well wishes and prayers ... it does mean a lot.

Jaak, sorry to hear and I wish you all the best. My mother is going through oral cancer (tongue) as well right now, so I understand what you are going through. She went through the surgery and now getting treatment at Princess Margaret (across the road from TGH) and is now into radiation. For her, unfortunately it was caught too late and spread to lymph nodes, and a PET scan confirmed more challenges are on the horizon. If it would provide any comfort, and you want to chat about our experience, I would be more than happy to, just send me a PM...and fight ! Fight ! Fight.! You are in great hands at TGH.
Seems I'll be in Ward 6 B till the 20th. We may meet if you are there.

I have given the anesthetic for these types of surgeries many times. You will recover but I'll be honest, the first few weeks will be rough. The scar will be less than what you imagine. Your very positive attitude will go a long way! The Canadian health care system is wonderful. In the US it could bankrupt you or at least eat up your retirement savings.

Hi. My name is Greg. My first post here. So sorry to read this. I'm a cabinetmaker in a high end shop and have been for 28 years. I have heard of woodworkers getting cancer in the sinuses and think about it from time to time. Very scary.
My best wishes for a fast recovery Jaak. You have the right attitude and that will go along way.

One of the worst news anyone can here for sure, Jack. But you owe it to your family to stay strong. You are right, 59 is just half way, so go in there and kick that cancers ***, Pal. You will have to post an update here as soon as you'll have the energy, as we'll all be thinking of you. Good luck!
