Is this it? Different rear deck lid, wheels, brakes and a security sticker on the right rear glass suggest it may not be.

This may be a stupid question, but is there anything your insurance company can do for you? A stolen car or missing car is just that! Good luck!

The problem is that, if the ownership is on her name, the insurance company and any other agency will not see it as stolen.

This is dead on ... Actually the irony is if he took the car back she could probably have him charged with auto theft, as police consider name on ownership the rightfull owner.
Until they sort out the liens of course

lien is on the car. So while you may wish to be part of the legend , that 5k car will not be yours for long.......... unless of course you intend to repay the lien.

Curious as to how you can just make up a lien? Did you perform service to the car and are owed? Did you extend financing? Doesnt the body registering the lien as for proof as to why ie: work order, financing contract etc etc.

Something smells fishy with the process.....

the registration of the lien can be done by anyone. There is no evidence which needs to be submitted on registration. The registration of the lien merely serves as notice . Your correct that there needs to be an underlying agreement , note , evidence of indebtedness etc as these documents are the basis of the security interest. In the op's case its complicated as he claims he is the true beneficial owner and is involved in family law proceedings which involve the division of net family property a potential equalization payment and the fact that he claims the absconding spouse is in breach of a court order.

^^^^ he went into full blown lawyer mode in that response. Only reason I understood it on the first pass is that I am married to one.
