I did an oil change on our daily driver the other day and noticed the amount of surface rust on the underbody of the car (i.e. suspension, brakes etc.) The daily driver is driven year-round in all weather conditions, and it's about 6 or 7 years old. We will be keeping it for a while given the market conditions and it's been good to us for zipping around in the city.

Any recommendations on where to go for rust proofing in the GTA? We're in Mississauga but willing to travel for good service. For what it's worth, the daily driver is not a Porsche. Thanks in advance!

 

I've used krown religiously in the past which has worked well but may make the switch to fluid film this year. The fluid film application makes everything look very clean. Krown does make the door rubber swell over the years.

Krown in Mississauga (1019 Lakeshore ) has been a go to place for many years for few of my cars... but does leave a mess and rubber over the time does react with the fluid.

I've used Wurth Cavity Wax for years... and this stuff is amazing... This with combination of rust converted / protection film - seals and stops/slows the spread.... You'll need a max 2 of each for a full car treatment - maybe more the first time and depending on the car size.

Are you buying direct from them? Says it requires a business account to be set up

 

I started using a product called corrosion free, but may switch to fluid film or surface shield once I am done my gallon bottle of it.... I still have an application or 2 left of the corrosion free.

Last Novemberr was the 1st time I tried my own Rustproofing since getting a lift (I dabbled in the past with the aerosol cans)... wasn't as messy as people said it would be.

 

KROWN! I've been using it since 1990 and have had cars from new for 16 years rust-free. My 1999 Honda CR-V, now in the hands of a friend is 23 years old.

I've been applying it myself since 1999.

 

I used to use the Krown location on The Queensway just east of IKEA. My vehicle (06 Tahoe) would drip for a week but there was no rust.

 

I should have mentioned, ask for Krown T-40 (tan). I think that is all they have used for a while now. A long time ago they used to use Krown T-32 (red) and it was used inside panels, it being thinner. No need though as the T-40 is just as good and that is all I use.

WITH NEWER PRODUCTS coming to the market, how do I know they work and if I used them, I'd be a guinea pig for the first ten years of car ownership. A bit late to find out the product isn't what it is cracked up to be. My reason for using Krown since 1990. I am not too worried about a rubber seal swelling (rare in my case) but I am worried about my car rusting away as we have kept some of them for 16 years.

 

Problem with Krown in my case is the rubber seals come off, I had the rubber seal on the hood of my pick up sag out so now you notice or can see it sticking out. Also on the sedan I had a seal from underneath the car door also drop.

I guess the person applying is probably more important than the actual solution, something to consider.

 

if your vehicle is old and in good shape, i guess you could look for seals at a pickand pull to replace your saggy ones....

 

Odd as they do allow individual accounts to be setup....

I get mine through work, we have an account. But used to buy it from a dealer (Brampton Audi) just gave them the SKUs and they got it for me. Usually cheaper then anywhere.

 

any of the 'oil' based undercoats are what you want, Krown, RustCheck, RustCure3000, etc... Cosmoline also works excellent, such as CRC 06026 Heavy Duty Corrosion Inhibitor, or Woolwax
DO NOT USE a asphalt or rubber based or similar undercoat, they trap moisture and make things WORSE

 

I also use the Queensway location ..They do a good job always ...as mentioned just park on the street for a couple of days as it will drip.

 

I've been using Krown on and off for years any I find the people applying frustrate me. They are told it creeps so just do a blow over and everything is good. Don't bother with the rusty parts.
